Today I acquired a couple of Astronomy books from a charity shop, and the new welding helmet I recently ordered from Rapid.

The powder flask was made by G&JW Hawksley of Sheffield 19c. Sadly the spring is missing

Peace and quiet, as of a few moments ago.

(Mind yourself on the roads, folks; the roads will now be rammed with (largely) women in 4WD's heading off to the stables as they're all fired up to ride their ponies after watching Badminton gymkhana on telly all day. Its been close to seven hours of it today... at least I've had the workshop to escape to but the poor dogs have been stuck with it.)

Today I acquired an incorrect steel order. It’s the first chance I’ve been able to get to the site.

FH Brundle are a bunch of idiots. I have 50x50x4 instead of 60x60x4 which is less than helpful as the specs and gaps left are for 60x60. It was also 2 weeks late, and the order was delivered in 4 parts, despite them being told it’s an unmanned site, and to call 30 minutes before delivery.

Father got a locker with i dont know how many sockets, a gearbox oil pump, a lifting chain that's gone into the digger cab, some new Aldi tools, 2 welding masks, a few spray guns, and a gas torch, not a bad haul!!

A quick waltz around a couple of bootsales netted me this assortment.
Green 8 or 10mm water line that's more than suitable for air tool duties, at half the price the joker in the next stall wanted for something with crappy PCL fittings and wouldn't budge on price when I told him they were no good to me.
Set of four 5" casters - two braked, two fixed, brand new for max half price if they're actually the same ones I've seen online.
A nodd little hammer, with a broken leg. Soon sort that, but it appealed to me to save it.

Might be a panel beater's hammer, not sure. Obviously some kind of hammer for some kind of beater. If it belonged to the boss, it would be a master beater's.

So months of searching on ebay.com to get one now.

Have you any independent Hire shops near you? They may have spares.

Today my son & i acquired from the yot club skip, A 12" Record leader stillson wrench, An 8" record stillson wrench, three galvanised monkey tail shoot bolts, (perfect for my new workshop doors) A Stuart turner 240v electric pump size No1, A Herbert Morris worm drive chain hoist, A 12 ton Tangye hydraulic Jack, A 12 Ton Hydrolite hydraulic jack, A 5 ton Hydraulic jack, (All of these work) some useful stainless steel pins & an 8" Dia Steel ring made from 1 1/8" bar Dunno what use it will be but it looked lonely! A most excellent haul for a sunday afternoon!
If anyone wants some big single snatch blocks about 9" dia sheaves for rope or wire up to 1 1/4" dia they are still in there but can be reached.

not engineering related, but the start of the Tour de yorkshire cycle race started in my home town today, so it would be rude not to get some freebies. now normally I dont get freebies, because unless you want them, they are just clutter. so last yeart I got 35 packets of mugshots, and as the were one of the race sponsors again I thought it would make sense to try for a new "personal best", as that seems to be important to sports people. so today I got 48 packets......think my sister will be pleased as she is the one that eats them......so I get a freebie to give away

its from the early 80s so unlikely to be in hire shops (although its worth a try, i suppose).

and the part number for collet and nut are unique to this model - and people were struggling to get hold of them as far back as 2010.

Sam skip as the vice, two odd chucks and some party shot glass's. Great for mixing up small amount of paint or seize for gold leaf.
