I bought a pair of CK cable croppers last night on the way home as the old ones were knackered. Then this morning the when the stores manager saw them he gave me a new pair of Newlec ones!!!

Just got back from acquiring 60m of RHS CF 25 x 25 x 2, 22m of RHS CF 20 x 20 x 2 and 30m of black angle 25 x 25 x 3mm. Some of it is for the kitchen cabinet base, the rest is just stock as I had only one small length of 25mm box left, the rusty bit on the right.

Last time I bought a load of steel including 50mm box, I asked for a small vehicle due to access which they said they could do, but as often happens, the message never gets from the office to the warehouse and they turned up in a bloody great wagon with no chance of getting it up the hill. So I had to have it delivered to a mates unit and go down with a trailer and grinder.

This time I decided to pick it up, bad idea. And to make it worse, as my trailer doesn't have a ladder rack (yet ) I decided I may as well just cut it on site with the new Milwaukee battery grinder. They did tell me I would have to cut if up off site due to H&S when I ordered.

I went to the office and they gave me the paperwork and pointed me in the direction of the guy who deal with box, and the guy who deals with the angle. The guy with the box was a right miserable old git, wouldn't give me a hand to walk the 30m to the gates with the box. The young guy on the angle was completely different and gave me a hand to walk it off site.

The box needed two cuts to get it in being in 7.6m lengths, the angle was in 6m lengths so one cut was enough. I was thinking that the battery in the grinder would be the limiting factor, and I only have the one 5AH 18v battery for now. I was wrong, it was the slitting disk and I didn't bring a spare, I could only just score the last bit of box, fortunately it snapped easy enough when I jumped on it The battery was still on 75% when I had finished.

The H&S rule didn't bug me, and fortunately there were no dog eggs on the grass verge where I cut up the box. I can see why they have the rule though, while I was there two guys turned up, bought a few lengths of box and cut them up on the verge with a grinder, no gloves, no eye protection etc. Fortunately their battery died after 2 cuts and they resorted to a hacksaw

Would like an update once used for a week or so. I know I'm a nightmare for only hand tightening grinder discs anyway but think these may be a better answer.

I use the Bosch version.
Only time it was a pain was when a disc broke on me.

4" toolmakers vice from Amadeal. Lovely friendly bloke runs it.
Indian one was a tenner more than Chinese but he reckons better quality. £100 Not bad delivered.
Weighs 9kg very hefty for its size.

My neighbour who has a welding business gave me one of those quick detach quick gizmos for my 9" Milwaukee grinder. It broke when I tried to change the blade after just a few uses and I had a hard time to cut it off without damaging the threads. They might be ok for those who use their grinders "gently" , but for those who don't .

Ruffian I see no issue with hand tightening discs. I tighten them very lightly and let the load do the rest. I've used up literally thousands of discs over the years in demolition and never had one even slip.

Yep exactly but I do get a little paranoid when I just hand tighten 9inch discs.
115mm not a care in the world I just make sure the battery or plug is out when changing discs.

Yeah, the knurled ring type was the one which gave me grief.

The sprinkler engineer I know has them as well.
Only issues we both had is when a disc breaks, it can jam them.
But a pair of slip jaws soon removes it.

Always had it on the battery M18 grinder and that's probably clocked up many weeks usage.

I have used the Bosch ones for years, maybe as much as 10 and the only problem I have ever had was when some donkey put it on upside down. I will not say who the donkey was
Can't even recall ever having one jam up and I give my grinders serious abuse.
I am still using one of the original ones I got and the only reason I am not using both the originals is because of said donkey.

That's the style I use and wouldn't go back to the standard nut and spanner. So much easier and haven't given me any hassle.

I've had a couple where the guys put the nut on upside-down, causes a lot of rude words . Seen a couple have the outer ring explode but that's from abuse not poor design.
