I have seen ally decks eaten away by repeatedly not cleaning them after use! With our damper climate over here that acidic wet grass will eventually eat away the aluminium. Anyone with farming experience will know how corrosive silage effluent is. It's made up of the juices from the fermenting grass & it will eat through concrete!

I agree, the holes do look like they are "Acid" damaged.
They do last longer than steel ones.
Odd how it eats the decks, but on the alloy engines parts it does not seem to affect them as bad.

I had time to stop off at a good old tool shop. I told my boss "I need to rest my bad leg"
being a good boss he agreed and said "Just look out for a decent chain vice mate"

Slim pickings, but fun items.




Slater's Roof hammer. The claws are worn as is the hole pick, the shaft is loos and badly fitted. But it will live.



Small Ratchet screwdriver 6"/150mm in size.



A Compass plane, I was going to pass this one by. But when I picked it up, the weight was a shock. It is a very dense wood. The wedge is jammed, but what I can see of the blade it is rust but looks good. I will discover how bad it is when I strip it down.



A old design soldering iron, no chance to see if there is a name on it, yet. But I think a bit of "Wiggly" work is needed.



I think a re-wire and a new plug.

Or just bung it into the shaving socket.

I've been wondering how I'm going to do my ram/frame set-up [when I get to it] - I've looked online for 'inspiration' , but none of the Google pics or sales adverts show that in any detail.

EDIT: Meant to say nice haul there - jealous?.......Moi......?

Yes, quite a haul, sad when someone has died - the balance of feeling a vulture against hopefully the guy will appreciate his tools going to someone who will use and look after them.

The metal plate is attached to the end of the cylinder via a threaded boss

using 2 long bolts the lower plate and upper plate mount across the frame:

As an update on my now not so new Axminster bandsaw,the mitring model,I’m very pleased ,having had it in use now for 11 months,however it was soon clear,it was lacking an extension to the bed as there wasn’t adequate stock support when clamping,so here’s a simple addition from 30 mm angle and a bit of flat,it does get scored when angle cutting,so I’ll monitor that & maybe remove it for that process if it becomes annoying.
Btw the saw this replaced,is for sale,I placed it in its respective section a couple of weeks ago.

Found kicking about the floor at work, a brand new junction box. Exactly the size I was looking for to use as a pendant control box to house the switches and digital speed display for my South Bend lathe. Also found a couple of metres of 5-core wire.

In fact there's a team of labourers clearing the whole floor into 600litre wheelie bins destined for the compactor. I didn't steal someone's stuff.

I had to go skip diving twice in a week on one site because the labourers kept:
a. moving every thing around for carpets / flooring to be fitted.
b. clearing the site of the random piles of fittings they them selves had made.

When questioned over the din from radio polski the reply was a look of confusion. Perhaps one for the rant thread...

Right lads, this is what I have.











I'm not sure if the black, plastic, partly threaded bit is a protective shield for the ram threads in transit, or if that's part of the 'hold it in place' set-up? I'll send the Seller a question about this, but I'll not hold out too much hope.....

I'd really prefer a threaded steel collar above and below the upper frame crossmember, but we'll see. The plan is to drill only three holes in the U-channel to take the ram - one central, and the others equally spaced to right & left, as I think that'll accommodate my needs in terms of offset if needed.

We live in interesting times........

When I made my press using one of those 10T rams, I turned up a steel flange as thick as the threads are long and bored and screwcut it to take the ram. I bolted the flange under the top beam of the press.
No pics as the press is at my parents, but can get one next week.

The plastic is as you say a protective cover.
