or prise the head out, tip the powder out and burn it off, and hold in in the vice so you can tap the primer off, then reassemble your nice, legal inert roundChris ,
Now you have admitted having it , I'm guessing you don't have the required fire arms certificate licence to hold that calibre ammo , don't fling it away as some Richard Cranium/s may find it and get hurt, hand it into any police station & let them sort it out .
That's what I'd do if it were mine but I wouldn't be happy advising someone to do the same.or prise the head out, tip the powder out and burn it off, and hold in in the vice so you can tap the primer off, then reassemble your nice, legal inert round
Not much that can go wrong tbfThat's what I'd do if it were mine but I wouldn't be happy advising someone to do the same.![]()
When I was in the RN as a quarters armourer we happily burnt the cordite on the beach from breech separated 40 mm Bofors rounds , at Fraser Gunnery Range , Southsea.

Best check the wording of the law, from memory its ammunition makes no mention of live or not so depending on copper / magistrate it could be an offenceor prise the head out, tip the powder out and burn it off, and hold in in the vice so you can tap the primer off, then reassemble your nice, legal inert round
As you can buy inert rounds from most military themed museums I would say he’s ok. If I recall you can own the the parts of a bullet without a licence but once you assemble the whole thing it becomes ammunitionBest check the wording of the law, from memory its ammunition makes no mention of live or not so depending on copper / magistrate it could be an offence

Tim I suspect that those articles are usually factory produced goods checked by a company / business after being certified at the point of purchase to that business that they are spent cases & are not active before being made in to ornaments & key rings etc .
As a former shottie & full bore & small bore rifle shooter for 47 yrs , this from a metal detecting site jells with what I understand the situation to be .
" Hi guys, I just thought I'd post this thread to clarify the laws regarding live ammunition and ordnance.
The chances are that most of us have, or at some point will, find live ammunition whilst metal detecting. Despite contrary beliefs, live ammo can still cause considerable damage, even if its been buried for 70 odd years, and It MUST be treated with respect.
Under UK law, it is illegal to be in possession of ANY form of live ammunition, ( Edited 26/ 03 / 19 without a licence obviously ) and is punishable by a minimum of five years in prison.
Bit of a red herring on this paragraph if you read it all ...…. but sensible she got jailed .
A lady in Scotland was recently jailed for possessing a family heirloom - her fathers WW2 pistol. She had it displayed in a glass cabinet. Ignorance to the firearms laws was no excuse, and she was jailed for five years.

If you find anything that you suspect is live, then you must report it to the police immediately. If you've took your finds home, and then later discover that you've found a live bullet, then contact the police, and they will come to collect it.
NEVER attempt to deactivate a live bullet! This is also illegal without the correct licence and equipment. Not only would you be breaking the law, but you'd also be putting yourself in great danger.
It's great that so many of you will post images of bullets etc, to ask the appropriate questions. It's much better to ask, than to live in ignorance.
The forum will not condone any form of illegal activity. Any comments concerning owning live ammunition, or attempting to 'deactivate' ammunition, will be instantly removed, and appropriate action taken against the poster.
