Very seldom, when we do package work but it's handy to know for the future. We often have some very bespoke parts made.

A decent roofers bit and brace. Needs a clean. But the jaws work and it has decent springs.

Well I got round to sorting this bundle out.

The chuck keys ended up at Men In Sheds, it fitted 2 of our drills.

The GWR carriage key had some history.
When I cleaned it up it had a name on it. The man who's name is on it was local to the area. I could find no more information about him, apart from he worked for GWR in the 1960's. I donated it to the local town museum.




Before and after.
Striped down, cleaned and assembled. Sounds simple.
The wooden handles are new, as is the rivets. Worm had eaten into them. It is a bit of cherry.
The jaws had the burrs removed and then case hardened them. The American manufacture advert claimed they were "Carbon Case Hardened for longer life" So when in Rome.



This just needed a clean and the wooden parts a good wax.

It has had some repairs in its life. I could of redone them as one is not as good as it could be.
But I left it alone, as it does not impair the function, it works. But more importantly it is part of the tools history.

This mornings effort(s) - not the best/neatest job I've ever turned out, but ought to be adequate once I make the baffle plate to cover to outside of the exhaust vent. If this doesn't work/last I'll resort to Plan B - aka the Baldrick one of much cunning.....

Daft question - how thick is the exhaust hose? I'm thinking about getting one for the Garage Of Danger, would either have to drill a hole in the landlady's wall or run it out in the gap under the draughty garage door...

I decided to build a shelf so I could actually use my various bench grinders and linishing machine. Normally they take up valuable cupboard space and are a ball ache to get out. Don’t use them that often, but anything that makes life easier is good.

Flat bit at end either is 1" o/d x approx 1.25" in length, corrugated section is slightly more. I can measure it if it's going to be critical in your design. If you're going to drill through a block wall etc, you may need to fit a section of suitable pipe [say, gas or similar].

I'd be wary of just sticking it under a garage door in case the wind blew the fumes back inside..... Be aware that within a few minutes the pipe gets too HOT to touch.

Amongst other things today I knocked up a tramming tool seen some on the you tube and thought good idea, in the week I bought a couple cheap dti gauges off fleebay and made up a bar that fitted an old holder I had, Tomorrows project tramming the mill, It will be interesting to see how far out it is but having the tool it should make it easier judging by the vids on the net

I like this I have done similar with my grinders but rather than a fixed shelf I fitted them on a wheeled stand as i like things portable.

I did make small brackets that I bolted to each of them, so I could simply grip them in a vice when I wanted to use them, but then I found it such a chore to get them out of the cupboard, clamp them, plug them in, just for a quick job, so I’d use an angle grinder to sharpen a chisel or punch, or similar. Or run with a dull drill bit because I couldn’t be bothered to sharpen it.... Not ideal, and not very ‘professional’.

I really like that idea. You could always add an extractor hood over them to save breathing nasties.

More accurately, finished today. This has been kicking around under my feet for ages, you all know the set-up.....do a bit, get distracted by something else needing doing, moving on to another project.....

Anyway, got it finished this a.m. - the perspex cover might need rethinking a bit but I'll see how it stands up to use for a while



Now....what's next on the list? Oh, yes. Finish a couple of clocks and make another 2 x crabs.

Limited turning time today, but managed to turn the barrel for this. Cosmetic manufacturing imperfection in the tyre tread end cap, so messed about with that briefly, one for the discounted seconds pile.

Luckily I have another, which is spot on.

Good afternoon, have been doing some routing of HPI (high pressure laminate), decking for playground equipment, quite **** stuff It is like fiberglass and it is 10mm thick.

This just the router doing the shallow surface cuts so that the sheet looks like timber panels. This stuff is slow, noisy and damaging to the solid carbide cutters, so it had all the pluses
We just have to do what we get to do and deal with the consequenses. Still, get to play with the cnc machine which is always good

Yeah, often do them because I like making them, then end up in a case for a while untill someone asks.

Two days work here, doesn't look a lot but half of that time has been spent measuring, working out with the skipper what he wants, lifting onto the boat and clamping to height with wooden legs and then measuring for each leg as everyone is a different length due to the camber of the deck.
I have done a lot of shooting tables for boats and every single one is different even though basically they are the same, every skipper just wants wee things different and every boat is different.

Tomorrow it will be sheeted round bar down the edge then lifted onto the boat ready for glassing the feet in place, not me doing that though, I refuse to touch that horrible stinking stuff
