I did a *lot* of research, and the Garrett ace 150 or 250 seem to have the best quality/price ratio - and are incredibly popular.
the 250 has slightly better features.
the only thing to watch is that the control panel is not waterproof. it needs a rain cover, and definitely won't stand to be dunked.

That's good info, there are a few battle sites around here from the Irish civil war in the 17th century & I've always wanted to buy a detector & go explore them. My friends dad owns one site & as far as he knows it has never been surveyed & would have no problem with me having a look.

That is exactly how it should be. I knew someone who bred dogs, and that is what she did. She also stipulated in the sale contract, that she would do home visits for the first year, and would take the dog back, if she felt it was mistreated, abused, or sold on.

The Pup of the Avo.



I raised an E Bay complaint.
Guess what, they sided with the guy who had sold this. He claimed it was in good condition and fully working. Normal rubbish they spout when then have been found out.

I contacted E bay again, showing pictures of the undamaged packaging and a statement that UPS had delivered it undamaged. Plus I had supplied pictures that all the Anti Tamper seals and Anti tamper paint had bean broken.
The ring you see (1 of 3 loose) is from the Needle Zero adjusting screw. The one above the AVO logo.

Just before Christmas, E bay conceded the damaged was "Pre delivery." Thus not by transit damaged and the seller knew it was not as advertised. I got a refund. Not including P&P. I complained again and they have now refunded all my costs.
So.
Why this ambling rant?

Today I got a parcel.



In the parcel was a box.



Well made, dove tail joints and brass hinges. Just let down by a catch.

New leads, new battery and a not saying the Ohms reading was out. But I knew that.

It is fully working and a quick tweak of the Ohms Zero adjust we are away.

And quite right too, we had a home visit and interview when we adopted our two kittens from Celia Hammonds despite them having over three hundred cats / kittens that needed homes they were very careful. As for costs they suggested that a donation of £50 per cat be made to their charity to cover the cats' first inoculations and spaying plus a little left over to help with their work.

There's such a rash of reasonably decent (from what I hear) cheap ones from China and elsewhere, that the used prices of the ones I'd consider to be definitely decent are depressed a lot.
Suits me. It allows me to build up a small collection of decently accurate measuring kit for norralorra dosh.
What on earth happens to all the lost standard length calibration pieces? Do people use them as hobnails or something?

My friend Sad Sack Steve works in a local charity shop. One I am happy to support and will donate.
They have strict rules on what they can or can not sell. Bladed tools sadly can not be sold, nor can electrical items. But They have outlets were they can be sold to raise funds.

SSS has just left. But he left behind a heavy box.



In the box was:
Post Square.
Box if driver bits.
Box of WACCO elec. connectors.
Bit driver.
Chuck key, they are breeding.
Plus a alloy hose attachment.

But what made it heavy was what that bunch was sat on.

Sounds like the place my nail punches and pencils run off too.

Can never find a nail punch when needed. Found them the other day lurking in my jigsaw box of all places.
