I was looking at the plugs and there is no way my bunchonannas is going to hold those tiny cables while soldering into the back of those plugs so I made a holding jig out of a bit of scrap 20mm square box. Now the question is whats the best solder,flux and iron size for this kind of thing? I have these small irons and one of those instant heat trigger hella jobs, really dont want to melt or compromise the integrity of the plugs.

25 watt iron max, flux cored solder, IIRC I used 1mm^2, but the label has come off the reel. It's the size recommended for soldering ICs to PCBs. Clean & tinned bit.

The one on the right is 25w so I will use that With this flux core gear is there any need for additional flux or is whats in there adequate?

You won't need to add flux. Make sure the bit is properly tinned, if not heat transfer will be reduced and you'll probably melt the plastic before the solder.

Flick off any excess solder on the bit and hold the bit & new solder to the connector at the same time until the solder flows into the solder bucket.

You're also likely to flatten the insulation where the clamp is and, possibly expose the conductor, because heat transfer will soften it.

Good point, its only a two bob plastic clamp so I will cut some clearance grooves into it
