Just buy another Bosch one & take your faulty one back in a couple of months

Poor craic imho, and they'll probably have serial numbers or some such recorded anyway.

got the starter off the van! Can anyone tell me how to bench test it before I get a new one? I have a spare battery to supply power but not sure how to do it! Whilst on the van the +ve was connected to the threaded rod, the neutral (-ve) was connected to a bolt holding the starter in place and there was a small cable in a plastic connector that clipped on to the solenoid. Presumably the +ve and -ve are permanently connected and powering the solenoid acts as a switch?

Jump leads and a battery

Positive to terminal.
Negative to body of starter.

Then little cable from positive to exciter spade connector or little terminal to get it to fire.

Done it thanks everyone. Starter is definitely knackered! Just ordered the remy which will come in at about £95 after I send the old one back. I'm a bit miffed that the Bosch one only lasted 15 months but £95 and about 3hrs of my time isn't too bad!
