Starter motor recommendation

My van suddenly stopped starting yesterday dinnertime at a customers house. I had no problems up until then, I turned the key and all the dash lights come on, then turn the key to crank the engine and nothing! All the other electrical systems such as the radio stop briefly like normal for cranking but no clicking just nothing. Had to bump start to get it home. Van runs perfectly fine once running, but still won't start. Assuming the power is briefly cut to the radio etc by the engine ignition management to conserve power for the starter motor rather than the starter motor taking all the power and turning other things off in the process, I'm suspecting the starter motor is the problem.
I fitted a new "reconditioned" Bosch starter motor from, Euro Car Parts, last September and also a new battery at the same time. First I'll enquire about the warranty on the existing unit but I don't have the time to mess about fixing stuff 5 days before Christmas as I still have jobs to finish. Needs sorting today really so I might just have to get a new one.
Local place doesn't have a Bosch unit in stock but does have a Remy unit in. Does anyone have any experience with these units, are they ok? As the current one has done 15 months an was supposed to be quality it may be moot really!

Might be worth checking the starter relay and the big fuse first .

I have had nothing but trouble with stuff from euro parts and will no longer use them, I know some is branded but the stuff is just rubbish.
First job check earths, place a jump lead between battery negative and engine block if it spins faster replace or fit an additional engine earth right back to the battery, then check starter relay / solenoid is pulling in. Often stater motor bushes wear causing the armature to slip over to one side off centre and jamming so check end bush for ovality

The fact you have no clicking suggests to me you need to do some other checks as suggested before blaming the starter motor itself.

Checking that there is a live to the starter motor solenoid when cranking would be first on my list.

Positive jump lead directly onto starter feed and other from bracket back to neg terminal will tell you if motor working

Begs the question, why did you change the starter in the first place? Start with easy checks first - put a DVM across the battery (directly on the posts) and monitor voltage whilst cranking. I'd expect to see it drop from 12V+ to 9V or less.

just to add, there are now varying horse power ratings on starters for some vehicles......I always fit the HD stuff.....
Delco remy was a Vauxhaul brand.....
Dont be fooled by Bosch uto equip they are also now made to a price..

I'm not fully convinced with the quality of most rotating product these days! This is coming from someone that works in the trade.

It's an 06 T5. I changed the starter motor because the old one was knackered! It had lasted 10 years and done 120k miles so can't complain! Put my fluke on the battery and it's reading 12.63v. Drops to 12.16 with ignition on and stays the same when key is turned to starting position.

Its probably still under warranty tbf. Would be interested in knowing how much a genuine unit would be! I find it funny how a genuine unit can last 10 years Same situation with Batteries originally fitted lasting longer than aftermarket replacements. It clearly says to me that there is a difference in build quality.

Remove starter motor and make sure contacts are clean as is the terminals on the positive lead.

As for the earth lead they can fill up with water and rot out where the joiner is on the nd chassis leg. Make sure it's solid and not rotten/wires about to pull out.

Cheers for the advice guys. Managed to get some alternative transport so not as imperative to fix this week now at least. Euro car parts said the warranty was only 12 months. Bosch website says Xchange starters have same warranty as new ones but not how long! I tried contacting Bosch and left a message but no-one has replied yet.
I need to take the old one off to check it really so I'll do it this weekend and if it can't be fixed I'll get the remy one. It's not a massive job really and the van has been faultless for 12 years so I can't complain, it's just the timing!

Just buy another Bosch one & take your faulty one back in a couple of months

my VW LT35 had a chinese clone fitted and i just got a Bosch recon one from a local place, i could get another chinese cope for £70 of ebay but i paid £85 for the bosch recon as the ebay one looked well shonky

If its anything like the Transits 12.16v is not enough to get it cranking or even engage the starter solenoid.
