My first lathe when I was a school boy was a East German ‘hobbymatt’
Parent bought it for me new and I still have it.
Holds .0002” easily
Not dear on eBay used
I have one of the larger bench top Chinese lathes I am thinking of selling up as haven't used it in 6months. If your local more than welcome to have a look
Mines 3ft. Weighs 500 odd kgI've got a Drummond b type good little lathe the total length is 3ft so it's not too big but it weighs more than it looks
I love it when you can clamp a small chuck in a bigger chuckView attachment 163003 My little Lang that’s a 4” diameter tube
fits in my home workshop ok
The small chuck is 15"I love it when you can clamp a small chuck in a bigger chuck
The only thing id say, is with lathes especially but also any other machinery or tools, the biggest favour you can do yourself is steer well clear of anything with the name "clarke" on it, or anything seen in machine mart. Might aswell throw money away
Have 2 Clarke table saws. Small 10inch woodworker and a larger saw. Both do the job and the little ten gets abused cutting firings regularly without complaint.Blanket dismissals like this annoy me, we have been using a Machine Mart Hydraulic press at work for about 8 years, very good quality, and never given any trouble. Clarke Mig welders have a reputation of being one of the best "hobby" migs you can get, my 100E was a lot better than the similar sized SIP we had at work. I have a few other things I got from Machine Mart too, and they have all done the job expected of them.
