Most in our village have drunk the spring untreated for years, its mainly surface water so probably full of sheep dung but they don't seem to care, it has a slight green tinge......
We have a 100year old well at work... 10feet diameter 176 deep, all hand dug
Cast iron lining
Still in use
From reading your posts they have a mains feed as a backup into the break tank. Why not use that for drinking water?
That has been my idea from the start and will be proposed again today
Our local authority used to offer free water tests, then this was changed to free water tests for those with children under 11, this has now been withdrawn altogether and all water tests are chargeable. If the people have young children then the water test is free.
We had ours done about 10 years and the only thi9ng they pulled up is that water shouldn't be boiled twice due to levels of sulphates or nitrates can't remember which.
We basically have a pipe into the well with a none return valve on, a pump with a pressure switch and an expansion vessel which provides the initial surge while the pump spins up and keeps the system primed. We don't have a UV filter or a sediment trap.
Even if the water is only used for drinking it's worthwhile as it's a world apart from mains water.
If it's not been used for a while then probably would want a few litre pumped out to refresh.
No another victim of greed. They deliberately cut frontline services so they can beg for more cash. Have the civil servants taken a pay cut? Have they stopped wasting money like water? Our local authority used to offer free water tests, then this was changed to free water tests for those with children under 11, this has now been withdrawn altogether and all water tests are chargeable.
Another victim of the cut backs.
Yeah we have a UV system a carbon filter and a pleated filter ...and the water tastes great and is crystal clear ...the UV lamp should last for 9000 hours I think, the pleated filter I clean out once a year and the carbon or GAC filter get replaced when I remember...
We’re all turning into softies! The first cottage I lived in the water supply came from a drain then into a holding tank. It often ran out due to blockages in the pipe. Most common cause were mice, summer time it was frogs! Stayed there for a good few years, never badly due to the water. Moved to a house on mains water, Ill fairly often.
I do get the feeling that the authorities and utilities would rather people didn't have their own water supplies.
Only my kitchen tap was filtered - wen you had a bath it was stream water. I used to tie an old sock over the taps to stop the tadpoles coming in!
