welding table top

just wondering peoples opinion on what to buy for a welding table top.
do you think it is better to go out and buy a sheet of 6mm sheet 2000mm x 1000mm £80

or

something like this 7050ps welding table top 800mm x 580mm £90

If you've got the room for 2×1 then go for the sheet. As long as its well made 6mm should be sufficient.

id go with the 6mm sheet that laser cut plate looks of no benefit to me being honest .
2000x1000 is a nice size top. spend time on the frame making sure its square and solid id make it 100mm in from the edge all around will give you a nice clamping area for for more things than you expect

I’m 6ft and with the bench against the wall, I find 1m is a bit of a stretch to reach a tool board but a nice size to work on in the middle of a workshop. Might be worth considering but it’s whatever works best for you.

Mine's 1200 x 1200 of 10mm stainless and big enough for anything I do (just - welding up the metal-stock shelf took some piggery jokery) a good size IF you can get around all 4 sides. Marvellous what turns up in the World's Best Skip Assuming you can drag it out, of course...

My two cents gents. I built mine with a 16mm top plate, this for not much support underneath (didn't want it to bend warp). Drilled 16mm holes in it for the weld clamps posts. Now mine was 2.4m by 1.2m and it turned out too small, so I extended the long side by adding another 600mm section. This section is bolt on so if I want I can remove it. Now I am doing bigger constructions (biggest is 2.4m diameter) so that's why I extended the table. I have a pic of it on this forum completed. It was quite a bit of work to do, so I can understand why they cost so much completed, but am happy with mine and what I have constructed. Mine also has wheels so I can move it around the workshop It does weigh a bit about 750kg and had to get hard nylon casters to make it roll and to take the weight. Hard to get moving and thus hard to stop (Newtons third law) but it works for me.
