How about a section of gas bottle cut out to size?

Probably the best option.

I could hard face the cutting edge , of try to oil quench it.

I went to look at some diving gas cylinders but they are too thick.

I did some Googling and found out that scuba tanks are made from EN19 steel, there's a diving shop with a stack of failed cylinders round the back, I reckon this could be my materiel, depends how thick these tanks are.

I wonder what steel grade Calor gas bottles are ?

Think think are just 3.5 mm or so thick zinc plated soft mild steel as it hand files well . I feel it is the curved surfaces that give them their strength .

When our 10 yr old oil boiler started to leak water we spent almost £3K on the Worcester replacement . I took the old one to bits with spanners , pipe wrenches & a four inch angle grinder for the brass & copper scrap & all the bit's of useful flat metal I could cut off . Inside the burner area there were seven 5 mm thick boiler steel plates of quality steel judging by the sparks that came off one when I out it to the grinder .

It wouldn't take long to make a carboard template of the spoon you have, then cut two flat shapes from the template . Get them cherry red hot on BBQ charcoals etc. and hammer them round a wooden mandrel or into a reinforced cut out wooden form .

The only one I have is tar pot burner. It’s an absolute beast of a burner. Mounted in a custom stand/frame for 1m diameter cooking pots

Use the back wheel fork of the frame as the wheel holder less the tyre & tube . Add a battery & breaking circuit 12 volt micro switch with a running guide wheel... on a slide in /out support so you can run the micro switch the wheel rim from the cycle , Set it so the lamp comes on when you break the circuit then adjust the whole rim ... you may need to draw out, write down what you do as it can get confusing unless you're an expert at it .

You can make a really posh one using two more switch arrangements one on each side of the frame & one on the centre of the rim . You'll need a reasonable digital Vernier to set the trueness to ensure that the true running axis is central and not dished off to one side or running eccentrically .
