How would you remove this bearing?

Just a bit of fun. This bearing which has siezed on the shaft sits in a recess and you cant get any pullers behind the housing.

How are we going to get it off? Fire away

Take the bolts out of the housing. Tap the housing bolt holes. Use the tapped holes to mount a puller. Add heat if necessary.

Smash the housing to bits with a hammer and hack the bearing off with a small grinder.

If it's steel remove the bolts and weld a big nut on the end of the spigot to get a grip on with a puller. The heat may also help?

Carefully drill out shaft and should be able to save the bearing....

I'd be welding something to the bearing to grab it with a puller

Drill a row of holes across the housing to weaken it use a , then seperate into two half's with a cold chiesel and a micro-veriner adjuster (big hammer) then use a puller or grinder to spilt the bearing.

If that fails "A Hot Spanner" with some delicate handling/use.....

Done this a few times. Turn up a thick wall 'tube' to fit over the bearing part on the shaft. Drill the side of the tube to pick up the two grub screw holes. Drill and tap for a 3rd bolt on the other 1/3rd. Weld a threaded plate with bolt over the other end of tube.
Use bolts through tube into bearing and use bolt on the end to pull it off.

Remove the cover , there are pullers available which have various size rods with a ball end with 2 flats on , thsee are inserted between the balls turned to engage the races then fitted to the puller and the bearing extracted, I can't remember the trade makers name but good engineers suppliers wil have them, alternatively , remover housing cover then prise, lever out the bearing cage the balls can then be run round to one side the centre race wil then lift out and a normal puller and small spacer to keep the legs out will remove the outer race , hth

Hopefully it’s then possible to remove the outer of the bearing with the housing intact. May be a self aligning insert. Depending on what your preference is either cut the inner bearing from the shaft with a gas axe or small grinder. May have to cut both sides if really tight on the shaft

Going by what i normally come across the typical way is just ignore the failed bearing until it the shaft and housing are all so worn all the bits just flop about, until the noise and vibration levels are to high to ignore any longer. Then find someone (normally me) to make new bearing housings and shaft sleeves.

I was thinking on the same lines as @Dee J . This morning I had a few minutes spare so I tapped the holes m14 and found an old puller big enough to take a couple of old headbolts ( knew they would come in handy one day).





Also applied the hot spanner but




Not so sure the race puller is going to shift this and cant get in there with a grinder so I am thinking weld a tube on with gurt nut and slide hammer or gas axe.

Before you start clumping, grinding, heating, splitting etc can you remove that caterpillar from the top of the photo? He seems to be eating the side plate

Depends on what part I was trying to save and what would be sacrificial.

If trying to save shaft would chain drill the housing and remove in sections.

If saving housing gas axe to warm up, freeze spray shaft and try and rotate it off/use the bolt holes as press points.

If trying to save it all, would think a nice big nut similar size to shaft and big nut and prise it off

Bearing is seized and just needs replacing x2 , shaft needs to remain intact.

Tube with nut but instead of a slide hammer use a bolt to push against the shaft to pull it off.

unless I am seeing it wrong, take sleeve off shaft first(cut/cold chisel etc) then attempt to remove bearing
