Every time I use my lathe then have to clean it I often thought that some type of cover would be great. My lathe is a myford ml7 & it a pig to clean because its so small and you can't get in with a dustpan & brush. If the swarf is dry I can use a hoover but today I was drilling holes & using lots of oil so the swarf was a sticky mess!
I'll have a look at my lathe & try to design something similar to your cover.

I like that, might have to buy a few. I keep 2 paint brushes on the lathe & use a bit of cardboard as a dustpan!

I cleaned the lathe thoroughly on Sunday night & oiled it as I didn't expect to use it for a while. Guess what - I used it on Monday & all the swarf is stuck to the freshly oiled surfaces!

I printed a couple of little dustpans on the 3D printer. I keep one on my leather worktable, and one on my cutting table. A cheap paintbrush added to each, finished them off. Perfect for cleaning guff off worktables.

Varied day today.
Cut out some longer versions of the guide on gear brackets for a winch and then bored them to 40.05mm on the Chiron.

Next up is was making some "goal post" supports for the latest Cheetah Cat's shooting table.

Then a broken Aluminium pump bracket, a flag pole had caught round the handle and ripped the bracket off. I chopped off one side and welded a piece of 3mm in.

I was then able to use the half of the original holes to guide me for drilling the Alu plate. Once that was done I chopped off the other side and welded in a new piece and then bored and rounded off the ends.

I then had to make a new handle but the original remnant was seized in so instead of messing around I cut it off flush and welded a piece of solid 316 into a bit pipe so that it would slip into the original handle.

I then made up a spacer and a bracket for the rope keeper knife on the hauler and welded them to the plate I had done the last day, it had been round at the boat so that the skipper could cut the holes in the bulkhead to house the haulers motor.

Then last job of the day was to draw up some gussets and then cut them out of 10mm plate, weird shapes but I think the guy that gave me templates was just being artistic

This could also be in the "Today I acquired" thread, but here's two for the price of one.

The carbide cutting tools I ordered from Banggood arrived [ https://www.banggood.com/7pcs-10mm-...p-1273694.html?rmmds=myorder&cur_warehouse=CN ] and I thought I'd try one to see how I got on. Discovered that no matter how I adjusted the QCTP holder I couldn't get the tool [parting off one, first out of the box] to centre height - always on the high side, to such an extent I didn't even fire up the lathe. Think I should have got 8mm ones, although the holder will take 12mm [just] . I may need to mill a little bit off the bottom of each shank.....

Being as I didn't sleep well last night and being preoccupied with other things, I [wisely, I thought] stepped away from the lathe before I made a testes of something in my frustration.

So, what to do? I decided to make a start on a holder for the spare oxy/propane I ordered from Italy, 4 oxy + 2 Mapp. Originally the idea was to cut a template from MDF and plasma it from a bit of sheet steel [aka the side of an old pc ] bent to the shape of the original torch/bottle holder, but then I thought, why waste a bit of steel I might need in future...

So, with my barely adequate woodworking skills, this is the outcome so far - I packed in just because I'd had enough , and painters arrived to do the exterior woodwork on the house. Base will be the same size with 7" uprights [old bits of 6mm tube at the corners], to stop the bottles tilting. Lick of paint and job should be a good 'un.



Early hospital appointment tomorrow, so relaxing bath and turn in sharp methinks.

Not actually finished yet, but finale making use of an Aldi special adjustable mag clamp. It's the base for our new side table.

There are 3 more legs before anyone says anything! thee will need to be some gusset plates as the client doesn't want anything round the base of the legs to tie them together.

Today I made a start on making a shipping container into grinding and nasty niffs workshop. Its going to be the new home for the hydraulic hose cutter/crimping machine, the chain grinder, chain maker , head grinder and an indoor place for that gurt press. No money has been spent on this project, its all just re purposed or located





I forgot I had this, its a Bott bench and draws from a mobile workshop, spot on for a narrow space.
