Rifle rest

Another shooting related stainless job, a rest for the rifle, really useful for zeroing the sights, or just for lazy shooting.
Made from 25 x 25 stainless box section, butt and front support are lined with close cell foam to protect the stock.

Is is heavy enough to stay still when fired? The ones I used to use were much stouter, but then that was for Lee Enfield No 4's firing 303's

A 303 might be a bit much for it, but this is a gas ram air rifle, still has a bit of a kick to it though, I tested it on a workmate at work today and it worked really well, the feet have rubber pads on them which stops it sliding about.

Its a good starting point, and certainly shows up your errors. If it shoots straight in the jig, but not on your shoulder you cant blame the gear.

If you really want the lazy shooting approach, replace the centre pivot with a 2 axis servo and control it from the comfort of an app on your phone

Nice build. Better it recoils a wee bit. I read an article about the lead sled breaking rifles due to the rifle not being able to move. I don’t use anything whilst shooting targets unless it’s something I use in the field. Bipod was the favourite for years, l now use quads sticks. It’s nearly gotten to the stage where i’m going remove the bipod and just use the quads. A very stable platform to shoot from. Every year at work we have to do a skills test to make sure we are still very accurate shooters. Two years ago we had a fun comp at the end of the day. 100m range, boys shooting prone and a fe2 of us off quads. Quads out shot the prone shooters.

Lovely build, looks like it would handle up to a 22hornet or even a 223 rifle. I really need to get some time in the shed to put something like that together to scope up my Remington!

I would rather have the rifle on my back than on a rack. If I have to abandon the quad quickly at least I know where the rifle is and not going to get damaged. Oh, just so as people know, the rifle is always empty whilst we are travelling on the quad.

Fair comment. Yep always empty, unless actually about to be used.

Can only dream of owning one of them, unless I join a target club (very expensive). Very difficult to get a big enough permission of ground to use one. Ive just a 597 semi auto in 22lr.....the one most people love to hate, but I love going against the ruger 10/22 lovers!
