That looks afully posh for a shed. Is that a drain / gully along the bottom, or some kind of flashing.

@addjunkie I am going to put a drain gully all the way across and make a connection through the wall for a sink.
This is what it looks like inside, It has been extended so the original garage doors are still fitted at the moment.

I've had one of those this last two years.. a brilliant bit of kit of the home user who doesn't do much above 6 mm in steel or 4 mm in non ferrous stuff .
I'd about to try using it today to braze a stainless steel 10 mm mesh sidewall to around perforated galv steel sheet 300 mm disc to make a strainer for a shallow manhole type hole .

May I suggest you keep it covered with a large bit of old light poly cotton sheet tucke under it when it's not being used to prevent it attracting particles of dust & metal to the circuit boards when you do any grinding . I hope to make a full dismantlable filtered enclosure with a front & rear opening flaps /doors to allow me to switch it on , setup & adjust it for MIG or TIG welding .

So it was a good buy then? One of those is on my 'if I have any spare cash' wish list.

What.... to cover my welder


I'd be interested in that too DAPPH when you get around to it, nice clear perspex shell sounds good, this is the first inverter welder I've actually owned, used a lot throughout my working life so looking forward to firing it up.

Perspex will tend to be static and draw metallic dust toward the machine .. with a soft cloth you can take it off and shake it clean outside of your shed .

A couple of lads have suggested a fairly large aluminium, hardboard or thin ply cover with removeable disposable or washable filter sections on the sides and on the front and rear a simple sealed access door .

Currently I have my welder sat on a a disabled persons swivelling car seat pad ( £ 8.00 ) which is sat on top of a pad of kitchen work top ( for stability ) so I can rotate it round enough to turn it on as it is sat high up on an ex MOD heavy duty four drawer filing cabinet.

As I'm not a professional welder but a reasonably competent one ( well I like to think so these days ) I think it is excellent value for home use especially as it is able to do MMA, MIG & TIG with co2 or Argon . ( not TIG alu though ..... unfortunately ) .

I have two wire feeding torches & extra rollers because I want to keep one dedicated for aluminium wire welding . I've also got the TIG torch & a decent auto darkening welding helmet .
Purchased it from Weldequip who helps sponsor the site .. got some good help & advice from him when I made enquiries about getting a welder.

Can I suggest that you strap it onto something solid! I had an expensive Inverter Fusion inverter set sitting on the workbench while doing some stick welding. Somehow the cable got caught around my foot & the welder fell a metre onto a concrete floor - end of welder. That cost me over £300 so I always make sure that its replacement is tied to something solid!

A shackled chain onto the base board & over centre lock down turnbuckle type fasteners to lock the cover to the base sound like a possible solution or make the retaining box like an upside down table with slide down drop in sides & a laid over lipped lid to cover it …
Maybe instead.... having a plastic covered Bowden cable attached to the top handle and secured to the roof joist ( under slight tension from a hooked turn buckle ) above the welder that would sort it out very easily & enable it to be removed easily and put on to my wall mounted electric strap hoist ( ex motability wheel chair hoist thing ) if I need to get it out the garage & onto my four wheeled pull cart .

Wouldn't a couple of bungee ropes [the kind with hooks either end] be strong enough? Might be easier to gauge what would serve best if we had a pic of your set-up.

Alternatively, build a proper welding cart, you already have the tools to do the job, all that is required is the raw materials 1.2mm thick 25mm angle and a piece of plate for the bottle stand, a pair of wheels, round bar for axle and a pair of castor, and it will be a damn site more sturdy than the expensive sheet tin things you see for sale, just my 2cents worth.

Alternatively, build a proper welding cart, you already have the tools to do the job, all that is required is the raw materials 1.2mm thick 25mm angle and a piece of plate for the bottle stand, a pair of wheels, round bar for axle and a pair of castor, and it will be a damn site more sturdy than the expensive sheet tin things you see for sale, just my 2cents worth.

I don't have the space for a cart that's why the welder is sat on top of the four drawer filing cabinet that contains most of the day to day bits & bobs I tend to use .

Drill the cabinet and put a cheap webbing strap over the top.

Must admit my tig is fixed to the trolley by cable ties to prevent the expensive whoops moment, but its feet have a hole through them for fixing down which makes it very easy.

I have succeeded in killing every last one of my favourite mugs. The last one got left on the wing of a defender and the happiness of finally getting the old dog started was tempered by the sound of the mug making a bid for freedom onto the drive

Two, very contrasting, packages waiting for me at home this afternoon...

Someone on Instagram mentioned that she was running out of wooden blanks for her spoon carving and it so happened I'd obtained a couple of car boot worths of lime; I wanted it for woodturning but it turned out to be too fibrous - however it is sought after for carving. So I posted her down a shoebox full of blanks... she'd posted me some spoons a few months ago but these left me speechless:
