Okay will have to try that this evening. On the 5/16-18 Whitworth would be 6.5mm tapping size and UNC would be 6.8 so if you can't get a 6.8mm drill down the hole it's probably Whitworth.
I do more than enough filing for my liking haha! There are these old fashioned antiquated little used tools, in varying sizes and grades, ideal for that job and far cheaper than a mill.

I also need new bolts for the tool post holders. They’re ⅜”-16TPI with ⅜” head.
I think.
Current bolts all nasty
Jubilee clip is probably retaining a straight sided pin where a taper pin should be.
Grease on the slides
Compressed air fitting on the wall might explain why the chuck is full of swarf.
They were an okay fit on my Whitworth thread gauges but on small threads it’s hard to be sure of the exact pitch.I don’t think they stopped using Whitworth threads on these machines, so I would expect 55 degree threads.
Can you not persuade them that taking it home would enable you to do a much better job on it over time? Then never to be seen again
Right I need some spares. Anyone know what thread form the ½” nuts on the compound slide (to loosen it to swivel) are. I know they’re 5/16”-18TPI.
Also need four of the grab screws with a little nose that tighten up against the gib strip on the compound slide.
Again don’t know the thread form but they’re ¼”-20TPI.
They’re practically round mate. I will measure in the morning. Why do you need the nuts for the compound swivel Brad? Are yours missing or chewed up? If they are just chewed up a bit tell me the thickness because some lathes have skinny nuts for the compound swivel. The size you're looking for is the same as Dexion (5/16" BSW) shelving and I have some of those new.
