What are you machining?

Cast iron is messy old stuff to machine, also abrasive on your machine slides and surfaces, so make sure you clean up really well.

I cover the bed with a cloth to catch most off the dust of cast

Interested to know is there an inner form and if so, how do you get them off?

I'd suspect the form spins whilst the liquid rubber is injected so no need for an inner.

I would imagine their will be enough stretch in the rubber to pull off the internal form quite easily. Now if both ends had been the small dia that might be slightly harder

Compressed air and a twisting motion has them off,but it's not easy !

My friend (no longer here) used to have a rubber moulding place, was mainly solid stuff like dog toys and trawl net bobbins but he did do some gaiters and the like, he said it was hot horrible work but then again he didn't mind too much as he was mostly in his office

The two knobs from my Fobco Star had been opened with pliers by someone previously. Idiot! Today I surfaced them and re-knurled - first time knurling! I’m suitably pleased, can’t wait to put them back on the machine

I didn’t know there was maths to be worked out here... lottery ticket time I think

I did touch the top very lightly with a carbide bit to chamfer the edge. Sandblasted the lid, too. Next stop etch primer!

Pretty small beer compared with what's on here, but just made a couple of dies for the drain plugs in the floor of the car I'm doing up.
These are for the sockets that accept the drain bungs in the floor.
I made the dies for the bungs earlier.






The machining is pretty rough (I'm totally new to this) but the plugs turned out fine.

What sort of power and size of kiln is it? Was planning to make a small furnace for aluminium, and electric would be nice.

That's brilliant. I've fancied building a small oven to heat treat things like wad punches and similar, hopefully I can still find this post when I get to it, there's no telling how long that'll be.

Not done much with lathe need to get the pulleys/speeds sorted.

Made a waterproof case for bike temp/voltmeter. Unsure how waterproof, as it is a press fit relying on rubber sealant either side of the plastic
