Did yo mean to post how long before this would break and catch my eye.
Would not get me withing 100 meters of one under power.

really i have seen the wood carving guys use them to finish bits off on there work

Just dont like the idea of the chain snapping, looks like it needs brazing to the disk.

They have one of those carving discs at our men in sheds, didn't realise what they cost! A very versatile tool but no matter how hard I try I cannot convince the instructor he needs to refit the guard to the grinder! This tungsten carbide cutter is flying around at 10,000 rpm, inches from your knuckles with no protection!

The coordinator is also at him for using the grinder without a guard but the instructor is old school & very set in his ways! Some night the instructor is not there I'll refit the guards & loctite the screws! (The guards are in the grinder box & have never been fitted!)

That sounds a bit melodramatic, probably only saved a couple of fingers at most The chainsaw discs need a powerful grinder and the rotational speed is not suitable for single speed grinders as they spin too fast ( rated to 6800 rpm ) Check your men in sheds grinder or you may be liable for action if something bad happens.

I bought one of the Arbortech 'shapers' when I was in Oz.

Back in the UK I used it a few times and found it good - although it would eat your house if it got away from you....... Made a mistake later and lent it to someone , and never saw it again. When I asked about it...."No, I never had that"...

Re the Instructor refusing to fit guards, He may be a volunteer & he may be set in his ways but he is instructing people, If he refuses to fit the guards & encouraging others to use tools in this way he is an idiot & liable should anyone have an accident, The Sheds Committee will also be liable because they allowed it. Sorry but the bloke has no place instructing anyone.

As for chainsaw discs, I have an abortech woodcarver & it is a beast to use, it is designed for the job with bumps between the teeth to stop it cutting too deep, Cheap knock off discs with chainsaw teeth are a different story & liable to bite in with unpredictable results up to & including removal of bits of the users anatomy.

As dangerous as hell. Normally you keep away from tip of a chainsaw to reduce kickback....there's no brake mechanism and it's going to be alot closer to your face!

if somethhing went wrong big time,say lost three fingers, recovering slowly, then sepsis sets in and unfortunatly he passes away, how are you going to feel standing up in court saying you knew the appliance was dangerous but did nothing to avoid injury to others,that would in my terms be a breach of health & safety towards fellow friends and could result in further prosecution, we are all responsible for one anothers safety like it or not. am i write or am i wrong?
