Well, made day before yesterday. An heamatoma trying to prove my bench folder [with myself on the end of the twin arms] was up to bending 2mm perforated stainless sheet. We weren't....... Even with help it wouldn't do it - started to lift the worktop so gave up. It's fading now......

I managed by carefully scoring across the bend line with the angle grinder - no problem.



Why, I hear you ask. For a project [what else? ], more on which later.......

I've had that for more years than I care to think about. It came originally [probably like yours?] in a offer pack, along with the jar of coffee. I have to leave it soaking in bleach occasionally, as I drink black coffee and it doesn't half leave the inside stained. Imagine what it's doing to my stomach lining.....

Finished this last night.

All drift wood, collected on my travels this year, mainly from the SW of the UK.

The wood was pressured washed first and allowed to dry out. then steeped in clear waterproof solution. Then waxed with bees wax tinted with brown shoe polish.

The dish is held together with "Hidden" doweling and glue. I did it that way as I did not want to have fixings on show.

The post is also doweled into place, but it also had hidden wedges for strength. The post was not drift wood as such. But I think it was the remains of a fence line, it is 4 feet high. That height was dictated from the usable length of the post.

The base, yes. The one you see is the 3rd try to get it right. I wanted the smallest base I could use with out falling over.
The 2 splits were not planned, they appeared as the wood was settling, they had a nice touch, but were not a desired result.

Completed the workbench I've been working on for a few weeks now; this is largely the reason I bought my MIG welder a few months ago! A year or so ago I'd planned on making a Paul Sellers type woodworking bench and glued up the laminated top but it warped and twisted, as did the legs I'd also glued up, so I gave up on that idea.

Made from 50mm and 25mm square box, designed to suit the storage boxes I have and (a last minute design change) the fishing crates that wash up from time to time on the local beaches...

The top is solid beech worktop from B&Q, a 3metre length halved and doubled up. Two coats of Osmo hard wax oil; this now means that the workshop bench is now in better condition than the kitchen worktop inside...

I'm fortunate in having a workshop the size of a double garage and this is at the woodwork end - you can see the leg of my woodturning lathe! Metalwork and welding is at the door end; have a folding welding table (one from 7050ps and it is superb) and the MIG is on its own trolley. I also wanted to be able to sit and work at the bench like a desk too.

I decided to make a door for the ML7 cabinet, using some oak offcuts from a pal's neighbour. Plan was to have a panel of MDF [I know, I know....] faced with a remnant of my old pc case which would be handy for sticking notes to with magnets. This didn't happen because it was 1/4" too small , so I ended up just giving it a few coats of matt black as a contrast to the sanded/oiled oak.



The shelves which were the cause of my bruising are seen here, just laid in place to give you an idea. Hinges will be cantilever cabinet ones, the handle as yet undecided but unless something jumps out and hits me in the face, I'll just turn something out on the lathe.


Note to self - stop coming up with fresh ideas until the backlog of 'projects' shrinks a bit.

Going in for an eye op next week which will curtail activities in the shed for a week or two, methinks....

You forgot the basic rule of life, “The pink bits are yours”.

Never confuse them with the project you are working on.

Where I store my boat there is a gravel sandy incline where my old jockey wheels just plowed through it and bent and damaged the trailer,

the size is to jack up the boat to keep the water out but at 3ft even i'm thinking its a tad big,

Made a bracket to hold my digi camera that has a slot for sliding in a piece of passive welding lens, this is so I can take arc shots.
Forgot to take a snap of the actual bracket
But I did do a test run to see how it worked. I need to make up some sort of articulated arm so I can position the camera better as in this shot it could have done with being above the weld looking down, also it was kind of in my way as I just had it clamped to a spare Argon cylinder.

Here is the result, vertical up on 3mm 5083 Aluminium with 1.2mm 5356 wire and my EWM Phoenix 330.

Started making some Seacock strainers late this afternoon, this is one of these jobs that you are glad you have a CNC Mill

189 holes to spot drill

189 x 6mm holes to drill.

First one done, just one more to go but it was nearly 5pm so it will have to wait until tomorrow.
