Where to dispose of electronics & cables

ive got a carrier bag of old cables, scart leads, power transformer and telecom cable to throw away.

Where can I recycle or dispose of this properly?

They will take them.

Wiring can fetch top dollar from scrap dealers . It's worth putting to one side till you have a dumpy bag filled up and prices are at a good level.

It’s only worth money if you strip it and I can’t imagine the copper out of scart leads and telecom cable is worth the hassle and effort of stripping it out.
Scrap yard ain’t gonna give you nothing for that unstripped.

Beg to differ mine does. The big boys have machines and they seem to prefer it unstripped incase it's stolen.

It's certainly worth weighing in if you've got enough or are going to the scrappy anyway. I always stripped mine and didn't have any problems - I used methylene dichloride once it had become too contaminated for paint stripping.

Have you seen the cores on telecom cable? There is next to no copper in it. They might have a machine to strip it but they ain’t giving you in stripped cable value for it. They are fussy with unstripped cable because of the amount of copper in its cores. A lump of twin n earth they’ll weigh you in and other cables like appliance cables etc but they are not going to give you anything for unstripped tele com cable and scart leads.
Unstripped cable is worth about a 1/3 of stripped cable at best. When you say well worth while for two bags full I reckon you made a tenner at best.

Hi, I took some unstripped copper and some clean copper in to the scrap yard last year, the unstripped was a tenth the price of clean. They like unstripped because they can strip it and add value to it. I know some of that is taking away the weight of the plastic.

They just give a price per kg on unstripped not type they will have a good margin in it so I can't see them being worried

My local scrap yard takes unstriped cable. But you need a few kilos to make any ££££. Striped cable pays more, as it can go straight for melting.

There is an infinitesimally small amount of copper in CCA which a lot of network and video cables are these days.

Erm batteries are paying good money atm £4.50 per Kg round here,well worth saving them up then weighing them in yourself

they use granulators for unstripped cable. so no matter how thin they get 100 percent recovery clean copper
