Take some diameter readings see what tolerances you can hit.
These are as good as I can get
Top middle and bottom of a 90mm cut. Aimed for as close to 32mm as possible.

Don't use the tailstock when checking for head alignment as it will give you a false reading as it will be pulling the stock into alignment (assuming the tailstock is aligned )
For headstock alignment chuck up a sturdy piece and take some light cuts and measure. Once the headstock is aligned then you can try with the tailstock and adjust it if required.

Just out of interest chaps. Are all the glanze turning tools 100mm long. As they list mini turning tools that are 100m length.

The code of the tool will give you the length, for example PCLNR 2525-M12
The M being the length code in this example.

Remember the first time I had to install reinforcing for concrete. The drawings might as well have been in Arabic until the engineer popped down and showed me how to read it properly. All of a sudden it all made sense.

Much like seeing the above.

4 tonne of rebar went in that week. Thankfully all bent and cut to the schedule.

Keep meaning to sort some inserts out for general turning.

I have some hss tools that I found. One for turning and one for finishing. But there is another tool in my box. I confused on what one is what. Also getting rough finishes with the turning tool.

You will likely need to hone the turning tool to get a smoother surface on it, assuming of course it is HSS. If you have a poor surface grind on the HSS you will get a poor finish on the job.

Measure the angle you’ll find it’s probably 55 or 60°

The one that has been ground, doesnt look to have any rake. Worth spending a bit of. Time learning to sharpen a tool.

I had good results last time with hss. I think the bar is hardened. Might be better with carbide

Back in the old days when you was just an amerous thought by your father, people only had tool steel and managed high quality finished. You can get an awful finish with carbide to, if its not right speed, feed, etc

Idle curiosity. Are you feeding with the changewheels instead of the apron feed?

If so no wonder it's fast mate.
