I don’t understand. My feedrate is done with change wheels.Idle curiosity. Are you feeding with the changewheels instead of the apron feed?
If so no wonder it's fast mate.

He has a second screw at the rear which drives the apron.I don’t understand. My feedrate is done with change wheels.
Mine doesn’t work like that. Final drive from the gear reduction goes straight to the lead screw and the half nuts grab and carry. He has a second screw at the rear which drives the apron.
Works on a reduction in the apron and traverses on the rack the handwheel turns on at 2 to 1
Aye it's setup so the leadscrew is only used as yours is for screw cutting. See the link above. Explains it better than me.Mine doesn’t work like that. Final drive from the gear reduction goes straight to the lead screw and the half nuts grab and carry.
That's what mine doesMine doesn’t work like that. Final drive from the gear reduction goes straight to the lead screw and the half nuts grab and carry.
Wish mine worked like that. I wouldn’t have to swap them bleeding wheels about every time I went from a thread to a finish.Aye it's setup so the leadscrew is only used as yours is for screw cutting. See the link above. Explains it better than me.
Mine has a dog box with a reduction in it to reduce speeds for facing without changing wheels.
Only found out when I opened it up. Leadscrew wasn't engaging the half nuts when I bought it.Wish mine worked like that. I wouldn’t have to swap them bleeding wheels about every time I went from a thread to a finish.
Got ya
Yes. You are right. Just fixed it. The engagement leaver was not engaged. The little cog missing is for power slideLooks that way. Bonus in a way. Can feed fine without changing your wheels out.

Will do. Got it working now. Power fine feed in action.Looking at your compound and cross slide they may have had thin sheet steel covers to protect the screws. Worthwhile making some up if they will fit.. Found next to no swarf in mine when I removed it.
16 dp. But the teeth are cut at a very slight angle. I need to work out the diamiter of the missing gear.Brilliant.
Glad it works mate.
You gonna get the cross slide gear made?
Edit. Do you know what dp your gears in the apron are. Have some small gears kicking around that came with both my Lathes but weren't part of.
Should be able to work out the diameter easily enough too.

Yes. A thought I was. But am making head way now.Back in the old days when you was just an amerous thought by your father, people only had tool steel and managed high quality finished. You can get an awful finish with carbide to, if its not right speed, feed, etc
