Today, I made a JD2140 look and sound a little bit better.

Replacement glass is on order, but have a set of polycarbonate sheets to cover the near side when hedge trimming.

New mirrors.

Fresh fuel filter so it starts AND runs now..

Finally, a fresh pickup hitch that the previous owner had welded the bolts together because they’ve pulled the threads out of a couple of holes so needed HeliCoiling..

Oh, and swapped a front tyre, which was a pig to get off..

Gave it a wash and hoover out too haha

Trailer to sort tomorrow!

They say proof is in the pudding, so here she is, tipping a good 5t of wood for cutting. Need another to run the splitter now..hmmm

Still a few faults to chase, an internal hydraulic weep, dodgy headlight wiring, an engine oil drip, loader connections weep a little, new lights on the trailer and a few hoses could do with replacing if we’re being picky..

Mule to sort next!

Well, now how to answer that question. Most of it I don't know just worked out enough to get it to operate. However I am assuming you are reffering to the digital control at the bottom right. It controls the amount of rotation, whether you want a full revolution, how many revolutions and part there of. I just know the reset button after each revolution. It obviously has speed and direction control, it is a Chinese unit, but I needed something in a hurry and for what It would cost to construct one myself, along with the time, it was easier to get this. Still not cheap, but compared to others on the market it was 1/2 the cost of the cheapest other units.

I like the limit rotation function

I built one a few yrs ago, as I couldn’t find one that was slow enough for TIG. I’ve just drawn up a large bore radial vice so I can hold longer tube.

Do you know anyone with a plasma

I'd order a chepo 6" wire wheel [no pics, you all know what that looks like] for my old Lidl bench grinder and thought I'd test it.

Got hold of an old adjustable spanner which belonged to my Dad and gave it a go [I think @The_Yellow_Ardvark will approve]

I'm not a great fan of adjustables [although I DO have a set of Screwfix's finest ], but...you know....sometimes

Adjustibles are great if you’re not a klutz. They should never be used for loosening seizes nuts which gains them bad rap imo as they’re commonly seen as nut rounders. Old USA stuff is really nice - crescent tools made some lovely things.

Yep, hole was lined with HD DPM (you can see it in the build photos), concrete base laid on top of the DPM and then dense block laid flat to build up to ground level, DPM pulled up the sides backfilled on the outside

But when doing this I must have punctured the DPM as when we had heavy rain the pit used to fill with water

The puncture must have been about 3' up the walls as we would need a few days of heavy rain before any water came in and then it filled up quite quickly as the water table rose

Solved by having the pit walls rendered, 2 coats of tanking slurry over the render and floor then skim over the top sorted it out, been dry for 2 years now

Chap I knew was building pit in his garage which was partly dug into sloping ground, asked me how to keep dry, I told him to do the same as you did.

Couple of weeks later he was complaining it was full of water, turns out he was too tight to buy new DPM and just used a couple of bits he had laying around!

He couldn't understand why as he'd lapped them well, best bit was he was a builder FFS!

I finished making this today

I am rather pleased with the finish and I managed to hit all the dimensions. So time to try it out before I finish the chamfering on the edge of the knurl.
And it's NBG because the thread is wrong.
Specifications call for 5/8" 18TPI and I checked the existing nut with a 5/8 UNF tap.

But the new mandrel nut will only screw on by a quarter of a turn, suggesting it is the wrong TPI but how comes the old ones are a slightly sloppy fit on the tap.
Here is another view of the two nuts.

Anyone recognise the old nut and can point me in the right direction. It looks like the nut from a conduit of some kind but I am stumped, ideas on on post card would be appreciated.

Yes mate, or rather it should but does not.
I don't suppose you have a imperial thread gauge and could check yours for me could you? I will have to get another one, the only one I can find is the metric one.

zx9 this is mine it works out at 9 to 1/2" so 18 tpi shoul be right

I would have thought UNF was very unlikely. BSF is 14TPI.
