Ex-MOD Leyland DAF 4x4 Trucks up for Auction

Lt95, but I changed the high ratio on the transfer box to whatever the highest off the shelf are (did it years back, can't recall the details)

I also had a overdrive which got stolen (dull story) but I've recently acquired a replacement, so I'll fit that in time.

It's drivable to as quick as you would want to go now (ie 70 is quite possible) but the overdrive will be good for motorway.

The 2.8 is just a 300tdi clone really. I think m&d even rebuild 300s now to 2.8spec and for the variable vane turbo - but for a shocking price.

Their list price on the 2.8 was something like £7850 ex vat before they stopped selling them though!

I have xzl on mine too, which are slightly larger than the old (fearful) bargrips. I did the numbers in excell (again years back) but that ups the gearing slightly too.

Cradocks do new rims for them now though, so you could then fit cheaper tyres.

Interesting 101 talk going on here . Mine is an ex judge dredd LHD rag top. Bought it with no engine and gearbox, fitted a 3ltr diesel mazda engine coupled to a range rover 5 speed gearbox/transfer box. Fitted power steering and a fair few other mods like underfloor welder, generator and screw compressor. Currently mothballed and waiting in the queue of other projects to be finished. Will gets some snaps.

Junked the 16" rims and made up my own 15" with laser cut centers that I welded into some midland wheels steel rims.

I had put a 3 litre mazda Perkins in my 90 just before I bought it and it was a very good engine, sadly the owner removed it and the kit before he let me have the car

I wanted to do the 4 bolt conversion, but did not get around to it, but am kind of glad, as mine is now tax exempt, and, I think, that a steering conversion, along with the engine, would have put me over the points.

Am considering one of those, is it, haywire (?) assisted steering damper things, which may or may not be points lost, depending on who's eyes you look through!

I used a RHD rangerover steering box, if you wanted to convert a RHD you will need a LHD steering box. Its a bit of a fiddle but works very well, will take some snaps of the chassis mods when I dig it out.

you have chassis , suspension and axles which makes the rest available?

Seen a couple of those, one at Gaydon and another at a gearbox place in Shrewsbury

Has anyone here purchased anything from Witham before?

I get the impression that "just out of army stores" could mean a shell with no engine, transmission, etc.etc. (well, not necessarily, but you get the idea)

Obviously it would be foolish to buy without viewing, but plenty of people do buy vehicles without viewing on ebay.


The chances of me buying one are slim, but more because of the above, than for any other reason - i have been thinking hard about swapping the 101 forward control for something more sensible.... : )

I think some of the rough ones were as low as £500, the engines alone would have been worth that.
