I don't think it will be exactly round once you have fully welded it and put some heat into it

If i can find a supplier in Ayrshire for Stainless exhaust tubing i'll try and get the fabrication done too.

Otherwise i'll get the parts of the internet and start coming up with ideas.

Interesting stuff, but re gas you need a mix, not pure Argon, tried it the other day to see what it would do, not pretty. I am using standard Argon/CO2/02 mix, cant remember the proportions. You only need pure Argon for Tig welding.

Keep all headers the same length then make a Y using two bends at 22 deg. to form the Y will involve a lot of cutting and grinding a Linisher / belt sander comes in handy here are you making a 4 in to 2 into 1 system? sure there is a guy here building F2 sidecars see if he will give you the lenghts and dia of pipes.

Well didn't get a chance at the weekend as the local steel suppliers was closed.

I'm going to call them to get some steel for the jig.

I was just going to use 20mm x 20mm box section. What do you think?

Also, Sam, is a 22 degree bend pretty standard? How do i get into the part between the y to weld it?

Yes you can purchase them on fleabay you will have to get them mating exactly as I have said a linishing belt comes in handy here.Tack weld to gether and weld as far as you can when the weld contracts it will pull the pieces together that you cannot reach which will not be a lot. Thats exactly how they were done at Swona all you have to do then is pear back to what dia. you require for the outlet.

So for 1.5mm wall thickness exhaust tubing. What gauge of wire should i use? 0.6mm or 0.8mm?

And a 4" mini spool of stainless wire, is that much? Or will i need more (i'll have to practice a bit with it!)

if you can MIG that thickness on mild you should be fine on stainless they weld the same apparently. (have some stainless wire but not scrap yet)

Just to update everyone,

I've bought some parts from OJZ Engineering, should be here tomorrow. 3 45 degree bends and some extra tube to practice on!
I'm probably not going to purge the weld. Too difficult.

Hoping that it will be ok.
I'm hoping to try and get away without welding up a jig as i just can't get the steel.

On that note has anyone tried www.metals4u.co.uk ? Or any other online metal stores?

Seems quite a convenient service.

Actually yes! A lot of that stuff looks really useful. Only problem is that some of my exhaust is in 2.25" Which that site doesn't seem to stock.

Is that your site?

Hello ,not my site ,they are near me at castle combe race track,they sell upgrades and mods to the people that race at the circuit as well as to the public,thats why i thought there may be a track with something similar nearer to you........G

I just looked at their prices on two sizes I have just bought from Parkers, the steel was almost three times what I paid and the ali was about twice. Think I will give them a miss. You can buy from parkers online and have it delivered.

FWIW, I wouldn't weld it in especially if you're not making a jig.

I'd try very hard to sleeve it together. Welding it up solid with a MIG and it not fitting afterwards would be irritating at the least...

A "Y" piece with an offset exit pipe might be your best bet.

Take a couple of bends for the inlets, and cut them parallel to the side of the tube but hal;f the separation you need away from it, and the weld them together to make a "V" or pointy "U" shape.

Slap the tail pipe over the point and if necessary squash it for a good fit. get the angle you need. mark the "V" shape and cut it to suit.

You might need to "lobster back" a bend in the exit pipe.
