Mechanical Maintenance Technician apprenticeship at a cement works, 18 months on Operations then into the power industry (power stations) in 1993 as an Operations Technician, managed to get to Shift Team Leader in '97 where I've been ever since. Four different plants, several employers, currently at an Energy-From-Waste plant. All work locations have provided my Steptoe-like side with a rich source of raw material, gash tools, nuts/bolts/screws/washers etc for projects over the years.

From leaving school:

Trainee engineer at a small racing go kart manufacturer (1 year)
Mechanics apprenticeship inc some paint and body shop (6 years)

Approx 20 something years spent with an IT company across various departments,

Structured cabling (Krone, Siemon, Nexons trained)
Fibre optics (C&G qualified)
PBX Installation and maintenance (Avaya Index, MiTel IP)
Smarthouse - Networked home, distributed AV etc
Wireless links up to 10 km.

Loved the variety of areas I was able to work in there, could be in someone's house setting up their AV one day, up a steel mast doing a laser link the next and in an office the following week, this led to me working up to Project Management before I left in 2009 to become a single parent.

Current:

Single parent and Operations Manager (since 2015) for a small IT company (9 employees) within the Media sector, wouldn't be my first, second or third choice of employer but I get flexible hours which I still need with the younger ones.

Started off selling mainframe software - got good at it and earned buckets - for a teenager, - then at 20 I "quit the rat race" and went off to Greece to teach windsurfing.

Hitched a lift sailing across the Atlantic on a 36ft boat, ended up skippering a 70ft motor yacht up and down the Caribbean. Lived in Florida for a while (yuk), spent a season up in Alaska/BC (fab), crossed the Atlantic again (bigger boat) then worked on Superyachts as Chief Engineer (yay) doing the Antigua/St.Tropez/Monaco/St.Martin run (yawn).

Ended up in Barcelona where I bought my own 32ft yacht and sailed solo to Poland. Cycled back to Barcelona, got some Venture Capital and started an internet business.
Then bought a 50ft racing yacht that I sailed solo from Belgium to the Med and then back to Le Harve for a 4700nm Race to Brazil (the TJV). Sailed solo back from Brazil to France.

Moved to the IOW to set up a race boat building operation, had 17 people but still could not build them fast enough, ran out of cash, got sued for a late delivery and the company crashed at high speed. Ouch.

Now I have a company that grows exotic foods - and started welding as I needed a bunch of stuff for that.

Was in fabrication a long time ago, and grew up around heavy haulage.

Currenrly a welder / fabricator for Terberg...however all my qualifications are in IT which i did for 10+ years, was lucky enough to get a trial with them and was offered a job there and then..by far not the best welder in the world but they liked it enough amd the other work to employ me..
Nothing needs to be coded as thats sent out, i did a 1 day "training" course to make sure i was capable!

Must admit though the massive pay cut from IT im struggling with lol

I just see them about site, we build cars so have lots of trailers full of parts moving around.

I have seen service vans working on them quite a bit
