Has anyone used this and is it any good or just one of these things that aren't really worth buying and just look good on the demo but are rubbish?

Post a link to it and we can see what it's like. It sounds like HTS 2000 and the rest of the aluminium brazing solutions available. They work but you need to practise with them to be as good as the demos.

it be the same as durafix easy weld rods . there good . as any other welding 1st time takes a bit of practice but there as good as the demo shows . ive used them

Sif 555 self fluxing Al solder not hyped up to be some amazing 'fix virtually anything wonder process' and less than £20 for a pack of 12 rods.
durafix easyweld around £15 for a 5 rod pack
HTS2000 claims to be a different alloy (a trade secret no less), stronger (they are all 'stronger' than most aluminium alloys which isn't necessarily a good thing) and more ductile than their competitors (most are extremely brittle)

I realise this is an old thread but I Saw this guy at the auto sport show and as always the demo was good but to be fair to it seems to do a good job I had the pieces in my hands and it was strong also its hole plugging capability was impressive, and all this with NO flux, you just use a screwdriver or somesuch to break the oxide layer, he melted a hole 15mm dia in a sheet and fixed it with just a wipe of the screwdriver, after it cooled I battered the area with a pair of pliers and seemed just as strong !! the tee welded pieces I broke the parent ally first.

he repaired the hole as per the end of the video and I thought oh I will soon break that out but it was solid !!

Just edited the post I hadnt looked at the date but the stuff looked impressive acouple of the guys bought some (not cheap) £50 for two 'long' full arms stretch so over 2 mtrs.

Certainly looks impressive, if it does what it says on the tin. Similar stuff available from the Land of Everything I think

I have some of these rods and yes its good stuff but a little tricky to use. The temperature difference between the rods melting and the base aluminium metal melting is not much, you need to be careful that you don't melt the whole lot into a complete mess. It is difficult to judge the temperature of aluminium as it does not change colour or glow red like other metals do. I find careful heating and keep dabbing the rod onto the base metal is the best way to do it. The promotion videos make it look easier to use than it really is. Its a bit like silver soldering but not as easy or as neat because the rods do not flow. I have yet to find a really good method or product to solder or braze aluminium in a neat way.
