Best thing for carpets is a Velcro brush. Frees up any mud or mainly in my case the odd dog hair and grass seed. Use the brush in one hand hoover in the other and you can get carpets really nice.
If the carpets are stained or have really ground in dirt, hire a hot foam carpet hoover with the upholstery attachment.

Do feel guilty at times. Come the weekend I'm a write off. Massive list of things pending and zero energy and don't get enough time to go out and about with the kids as often as I would like. My son is totally the opposite to me and cleans his cars religously. He went to do a quick job on my Navara as he was borrowing to get to work and had to pick his girlfriends co workers up.
He came back in raving about how good the Aldi brush was......its the one in the current catalogue with a scraper on the other end...he reckoned it dealt with dog hairs better than anything he has used before.

Although I am far from a fanatic I like a clean car.
The last time I give it a good go I did wonder if it was a waste of time, one grandson for a 15 minute trip = muddy marks on the door card, back of driver seat and carpet, crisps on the seat and he did not even have a packet of crisps, something sticky on the back of my headrest and his name written on the inside of the window every time it gets condensation.

New car a few months ago. Made her clean it out as I barely use it. Twas minging. Kids are now banned from food and drink in the car. Made a difference. However there's a nice collection of kids clothing and junk building up already.

best tip for cleaning a car is regular cleaning
wash outside minimum once a week hover and a wipe of a cloth once a week polish once a month at least along with wax. iv no problem spending 3or4 hours on body wash,tar removal,polish,wax and window clean with a good cleaner or glass polish .
I always keep cars and vans regularly cleaned even during the winter when you can only drive a mile or 2 before ya wonder if you even washed it

matts out turn them over blow throught them with road compressor/ open all doors boot and blow it through then drop it off for vallet and wash.
i'm actuallu going to have to buy another car if i want to go out, the daily is basicly a van now and just has to much stuff in it and its to oily, the mk2 golf seems to traumatise all but the mental women so need to get someone else to go to the auctions and buy me an out car ( as im not allowed ther unsupervised )

i try and keep on top of mine regularly washing them and vac the floors and seats.
the regular cleaning means it doesn't get too bad so doesn't take as long.
one great thing about the transit is rubber floors, they literally mop clean!!
to keep the dash clean i leave dash wipes handy so if I'm sat in the cab for any length of time i can give it a wipe over if its a bit dirty.
one thing i actually enjoy doing is cleaning the glass so its crystal clear.
after washing the car i go over with glass wipes, then auto glym glass polish.
once its gone to a haze buff it off and the glass is streak and droplet free.
to keep the outside cleaner for longer simply spend time waxing it including the glass.
that way a quick splash with a hose will bring most of the muck off.

i used to spend time every week doing my car but since i lost instrest in the cars i buy i cant be bothered my car is transport to and from work and to take otherhalf to the shops
i had a few decent cars when i was younger 309 4 door gti montego turbo but now after having nice cars and parking them in car parks and coming back having knocks and dent scraches in them i dont buy nice cars only (with luck) good mechincs so relable and thats it
