I'm looking to get a compressor for a home garage, would like it to run an air duster, impact wrench possibly an air jack. Would 90l be enough? I don't want it charging all the time but I don't want it to take ages to fill just to do a little work then have to empty it.

I was told you shouldn't leave air in the tank over night or for longer than neccesary

I keep mine full all the time, saves having to wait if you need to pump tyres etc. I think most business's leave them on, if not on, pressurised, I bet all the others on here keep them full.

I drain the tank every time I've done for the day.

I always drained mine as per the instructions till the drain tap stopped working and it got neglected for a couple of months. I removed the drain tap to see about replacing it and about 2 pints of water came out so I am now back to following the proper procedure. Mine is an old 90 litre SIP direct drive which has been good enough for my purpose, spraying and a bit of nailing plus the occasional rattle gun impact driver use but anything like rotary tools, die grinder or sanding forget it.
That is one of the ones I've been looking at, I can also get a 150l wolf for 30 quid more?
Mixed views on whether people leave the tank pressurised.

get a belt driven comp rather than a direct drive one / I just leave mine full of air all it does is put a bit off pressure on the none return valve on tank . I empty mine if I remember

I originally went for the 150ltr version but the size of the thing was way too big for my needs, the 100ltr tank takes about 4 minutes to build up from empty and then about 40 seconds to rebuild from the cut in pressure, don't quote me on the rebuild time.
Yes it isn't as quite as a hydrovane but I comfortably stay in the garage working whilst the compressor is building up.

I bought the largest belt drive compressor that would a, run of a 13A outlet and b, fit in the car boot to bring it home.
It is a blue 100L Clarke and has served me well for the last thirty years, not used every day or even every weekend but it is there when I need it. If I have been using it a lot I will drain the receiver but if it has just been used to inflate the car tires or blow the crud out of some filters I don't bother.

I have been using a Clarke SE16C150 15+ years, very little trouble in the time I've had it but this model has recently been superceded by the vee twin version mentioned above.
What are your impressions of this compressor? I noticed a while back the vee twins were introduced to replace the SE16 range.

a few of us on here have wolf dakota 14cfm 90l compressors, one issue with some has been the manifolds can crack, but I've not had that issue with mine....and here's my setup

It's a superb compressor, it'll run a huge air hogging tool like a sander with ease, not tested it on a blasting cabinet. I was told by machine mart that they could no longer get hold of the SE16 due to the manafacturer no longer producing that parts for them that's why they use a new supplier with a V twin arrangement, the v twin is cast as well so it's the same build quality as the SE range.
It does the same job,the listed CFM is lower but it's actual and not displacement, it has a smaller tank but will happily run for hours and in actual fact that's better for it. It's just really nice to have the noise difference.
I paid £550 for it and has a drier on it so I think that was a good price. I appreciate I could buy a brand new belt drive for that but I sold my old Snap On unit which only lost about £50 in the 15 years+ that owned so I only paid half of the new one in real money. If I had 3ph I would buy a bigger one. My vacuum makes more noise.
