having taken the floorboards up added extra 4x2 beams in. laid 3/4 block board down as the composite shower tray was on top then added the 6mm marine ply then sealed with waterproof sbr bonding agent layed and grouted the slate tiles with flexible adhesive and grout then sealed them with 2 coats of golv polish I think its pretty bombproofnope 6mm ply is just not strong enough itll swell during installation then shrink back leaving voids underneath, which allows movement of the tile floor and eventually failure.
6 mm tile backer board is much more stable and although more expensive its still cheaper than tiling a floor twice.
