Just picked up some interesting work

Working on prototype/one off light Aircraft. Modifying them to take big radial engines, so welding/fabrication etc.

I've some coupons to send off for test, just to make sure it doesnt fall out the blue stuff

I hadn't but I have now. There was a post on here recently about plane engines getting nicked

But seriously, once they get the batteries sorted electric "just about everything" is going to become the norm.

Well there are already electric versions of the backpack motor/prop used in powered paragliding that @chunkolini likes doing, and from what I've read it's much quieter and there is less chance of it refusing to restart when required unlike with the petrol version.

Now that's interesting, at some point I'm going to build/buy one, hopefully might happen a bit sooner now Im working for these guys

Things can/will only improve. Airbus are apparently target four hours flight time [for up to 4 people] plus a safety reserve. Whether I'd want to be one of the 4 as it gets near the end of a long flight [without a parachute ] is another matter altogether.......

I don't suppose the crash would any worse than a petrol engined craft that runs out of fuel or has a mechanical failure towards the end of it's long flight the only advantage at that point is the petrol version will be lighter so should glide further after the propulsion failure.

No, crashing is crashing - it's the last few feet which do the damage, irrespective of motive power.

Apart from yew blokes fear of close contact with de erth. Airbus were building a nice little tandam twin electric trainer just down the road from me. 45 mins airtime on a charge ( check that against some WW11 fighters tankage..) But budget cuts seemed to have killed it.
