Hosting + a URL purchased.

Right now it's running on Azure (Microsoft's cloud offering) as I get quite a lot of credits for nowt on it and it's super easy for me to develop and deploy to. Unfortunately it's not really suited to running something in production due to it being a developer account.

For now feel free to use and abuse it. I only ask for bug reports if you'd be so kind

If it actually turns out to be something of use and worth keeping then I'll need to figure out how to cross that bridge then!

I can certainly see it being of use, usually I either just do it in my head or CAD if a bit more complex but the app you have done makes it much easier and I am sure lots will use it.

One of the reasons I was thinking an android app is you could charge a small amount for it which would at hopefully go some way to recovering the costs of your time. As you say though, online it should be fine for most and really there are only a few places I go where I would be sawing stuff up that I don't get a signal, so no big deal.

Surely when simply cutting lengths then the only benefit would be if it took into account multiple lengths of stock and varying cut lengths? So if you have to cut varying lengths from 5 full lengths then there will be time when it's better cut certain pieces from certain lengths to make sure you don't end up with 5 piece you can't use.

Great webpage but I'm not sure I see the benefit of me putting in I need a 1000mm,2500mm and 1500mm and it giving me a cut list of 3 pieces 1000mm,2500,1500, once I get to the point where I can't do that in my head I'll stop doing it.

It does, put in a load of lengths to cut and it will tell you how many lengths of stock you need and will tell you how to cut for minimum waste.

Problem with an app is that it ties you to a product family. So if I make an Android one then I have to do an Apple one and a Microsoft one. It's not that it's difficult to do it's just really, really time-consuming and it makes it more "work" than fun IYSWIM Besides, I wouldn't bother charging - who on earth is gonna pay for it? You'd be my only customer and you're fae Aberdoom so I'm never getting cash oot of ye x

Things I'm considering:

• Titivated output on an image or similar. For those who like pictures with their numbers.
• Some kind of tick box or mark next to each cut so you can physically tally when you've done the cut IRL.
• Nicer print support, that will let you hit Ctrl + P et al to print to whatever. This also allows pdf copies easily with a pdf print driver (pre-installed on Win10 (and 7?) I think).

Paul - Unfortunately it's a client/server architecture so the client you've saved to the desktop still needs to talk to the backend over the internet. Try unplugging the network and/or switching off wireless - it should cease to work and timeout after whatever default number of seconds your browser is set to.

It can be done as a standalone web page but it's a lot more work and a lot less fun

Would it complicate the maths & programming if the blade dimension was always imputed as a mm entry whatever unit was chosen from the drop down.

To be honest Chris, as long as the values are all the same units it makes no odds at all. The suffix (mm, cm, in, ft etc) is just tacked on to the output of each number. It forms no part of the calculation.

If you want to use a larger metric measurement for the stock and cuts then scale the kerf accordingly. For a mixture of imperial on the stock and cuts but using a mm kerf, you'd have to use decimal inches * 25.4 (or whatever resolution you need).

I always buy Apps if I find them useful so you would have had no probs getting the money from me, heck I even tried to get a guy to make a Pro version of a Tide App so I could buy and get rid of the adverts, he declined so I loaded an ad blocker

Oh Ok, I must admit I did wonder,
Also it works fine in chrome and edge, but in internet exploder it just stalled and did nothing.
Edit:, it was an active x security setting it works now, not that I use explorer, does anyone?.

Lol It means installing an APK from your computer onto the device. I don't own any android technology or have access to it so making an android app (what I'm looking at the now) would need you to be able to do that as putting something on the store costs money :/

Ah ok, no probs with that, have done a few that way. Had to do that with the dog tracker a while back because the guy that wrote the app decided there were only big brand name phones in the world and so the Play Store wouldn't let me install it. Used Raccoon to download and put it on the phone that way.
