Advice on dry sumps, Peugeot XU

Hi folks, question comes from me trying to help out a neighbour who's into high end motorsports, I'll try to explain.

So I work next door to a chap who takes the pug 207 diesel engine block, sticks a petrol cylinder head on it, whacks a huge turbo and gets up to 700 odd horsepower out of it, four wheel drive, dry sump, something I've only heard of this afternoon. From my understanding, you have a oil pump under the sump and an oil reservoir at the back of the vehicle.

When accelerating, the oil pressure suffers a drop in pressure due the forces applied to it.

Anyone know what I mean, or can point me to a forum which deals with this kind of stuff, please.?

Anyone know of reliable suppliers of this type of stuff is the second question. Stress the word reliable.

Pace are one of the well known suppliers, never come across a forum yet but would be interested as I have a dry sump project to do one day. VAC motorsports are another. You will need some deep pockets

Have a look on the locostbuilders forum, someone on there may be able to help.
Raceline make dry sump kits and Burton power are a supplier of performance products.

Also you could look at fabricating and adding more baffles to the existing wet sump

Give spooks motorsports a look. They do a dry sump kit for the XU and TU citoren / Peugeot engines....but be prepared for spending £2000

Deep pockets indeed, not me though, will look into vac motorsports and raceline and Burton.

You could also research Accusump which is designed to alleviate pressure variations.

A good baffled sump with windage tray ect would be more than enough for 700 bhp....

I have a dry dumped xflow in my fiesta, my scavenge pump fits and is driven in the same way as the normal pump does.

it takes oil from both the bottom of the sump and from the oil tank so it gets a constant feed of oil so no starvation issues like you can get in a wet sump.

on idle and warm I get about 40psi of pressure but at 7500rpm its about 70psi

Raceline only do ford stuff, pace supply spooks, spooks very helpful but the kit is not available, long story. Haven't got onto the forum yet, kind people keep on replying to this thread.

Yes Burt, internal or external belt fed pumps, does the pressure drop much when you floor it?

Yes I was looking around the 2 grand mark. Once again its not for me, 2k gets me a posh car, not a sump and oil pump.

To be honest, apart from very few massively popular cars/engines (Escorts, XE's, K20 etc), most dry sumps are exactly that, a bespoke kit tailored for the car, usually made to order even if they list a kit.
If he can do that kind of fabrication work to start with it's not really rocket science to make a sump and tank up and just buy a pump.
