When my biking cronies and I compare fuel notes, it transpires that with the odd exception the average economy across all the bikes we ride is 40mpg. You might expect more from a bike; after all, those inline 4 Jap things making silly bhp from the same capacity as a lawnmower must be tuned for optimum efficiency
Well maybe they are, but it doesn't translate into interstellar mpg. On the face of it my 1300 Honda 'must' be the most economical as it can do 320+ miles on a tank, whereas the Ducati Multistradas are flashing low fuel by 130 and the Yam MT10 is lucky if it will do 100 miles before you have to get off and push... of course the Honda hauls a country-crossing 29L of 95RON around where most of the others' tanks hold less than half that.
If I ride like a grandad (hang on, I AM a grandad, poor simile) at about 35mph I see an indicated 62mpg... but I can get that out of the company van and that weighs two tonnes!
I could only get 35mpg out the Africa Twin
Anywhere between 35 to 65 on the harley (injected)
Average about 65 for the 1050 speed triple unless I'm really canning it then around 45mgp
If my mate canned his kettle he was lucky to get 20, max was about 30mpg.
After the truck rebuild I'm only getting 16.8 at the mo, up from 15.2. Hopefully it will be back upto 21+ once its run in.
I've treid different fuels, and found no difference in performance or increased mpg.
Now a cold dry aumtum morning/evening that does wake them up
