Looking for some advice from someone who knows a bit about the electrical workings of plasma cutters.
i was given a Philips 3IX single phase plasma cutter which a torch hardwired which i can no longer get parts for.
This was the torch that come with it...
nobody has seen it before and could not get the tips. (don't tell me if you can i destroyed the torch modifying it to fit the new one!)
I purchased this new torch. Every connection was the same apart from the thread on the air line.
I thought this will work a treat. so I went about adapting the air connection and soldering the switch back up.
Im hoping that the switch didn't have to be wired round a certain direction. because I didn't pay attention to that. but I soldered the plug onto the new switch. attached the "not sure" wire to where the last one was and fired her up.
It cut about a inch through some metal and sparks shot out of the shroud of the torch!
i opened it up and saw there are 2 small pings which press against the front parts of the torch when you screw it down. im not sure what they do. but they are shorting out.....
Is there anyone here smart enough to figure out whats going on? the machine is rated to 30 amps and the torch is 40.
any advice or ideas would be welcome . thanks guys, tom.
