Zoro - closing

Just had an email from them stating they will cease trading on the 21st November and to use Cromwell instead (which are usually a lot more expensive IMO).
I know they can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, but they have been a very useful source for odd items, especially when you don't want to order in bulk.

I must admit I did wonder how they stayed profitable, I guess we know now.

That's a shame, it's usually this time of year I dust off my 20% off voucher and buy myself some christmas presents. I wonder if Cromwell will be staying trade only or if they'll be expanding into retail sales.

It'll be you lot buying those 3m lengths of bronze bar for tuppence ha'penny that have sent them under!

I would have thought all profits would have been gobbled up long ago by the running costs of the power station required to operate their stockholding records. A completely bonkers array of products, with no meaningful way of sorting through them as the filters weren't consistent. Although that's not unique to them. Why do so many online shops have utterly useless 'filters' like 'most popular'. I don't care how sodding popular it is if it's the wrong size.

Just placed another order, £37, with Zoro.
I notice that cromwell free delivery is from £40, not £25, but they did have a local shop.
Annoyingly I had a discount code frkm September but long expired, they havent sent any recently.

I gave up buying from a company because of their search filters. Looking for a 10mm spanner? 10mm gave you all the 10mm sized things, spanner gave you all the spanner. 10mm spanner gave you all the 10mm things and the all the spanners.

And yes, I did try "10mm spanner"

That's a real shame, I hade some cracking Knipex deals from them when they had the "Pliers" promotion then add the 20% voucher!

Ended up with a whole set of Cobras & Plies Wrenches

Yes, it used to be trade-only on the website (I bought something there back in 2020 when individuals were allowed, then it went off.) However, I have just made an account there with no trade requirement so it looks like buying online at Cromwell as the man on the Clapham omnibus is back on! Good news.

Hmm, I had no problems ordering online with Cromwell from 2019 through to 2022, at which point I found Zoro was consistently cheaper and offered a wider selection and didn't bother with them much after that.
Just bought something from "Zoro" and it arrived in a "Cromwell" box. Can't help but wonder if that's why they were doing silly amounts of packaging the last few orders - perhaps trying to get shot of all the "Zoro" branded boxes.
