My oh my what a wonderful day. A red box of Portamig 235 loveliness has just turned up!
Actually, it's been a wonderful month. Passed the City and Guilds level one in MIG, registered to do level two next year, took advantage of the Halfords offer of a two piece industrial tool cabinet for the price of one (nice bit of kit BTW).
Anyway, back on topic ... the Portamig experience so far. Excellent! PM to Weldequip and photos, specs and prices etc arrived by email. Placed order, kit arrives from Weldequip when he said and machine arrives from manufacturer on due date. No fuss, no hassle, no pointless marketing. Did everything it says on the tin, if you see what I mean. Now that is proper customer service (large companies with overinflated marketing budgets, promising what they can't deliver, take note, eg Halfords above ... long story ... now sorted).
First impressions of the machine itself. Rock solid build quality! The three essential chunky controls on the front for voltage and wire speed adjustment. Dirty great wire feed motor and solidly built feed mechanism. Good solid wheels make it very manoeuvrable for a weighty beast. Utilitarian to look at, which is a compliment, not a criticism i.e. it's performance and ergonomics that count, aesthetics can take a back seat. I KNOW I have done the right thing. Anyway, I feel the scarlet temptress beckoning so will go and load her up with some wire and pull her trigger. Will report back hopefully with piccies of astounding welds (put whatever interpretation on 'astounding' you wish).
Oh, BTW Cheers Weldequip, absolute pleasure doing business with you.
