Does anyone know of one? I've been reading here how it's the stuff to use, but I've asked a couple of places where I get normal steel from, and they can only get it in large orders. I just want a few half-sheets or so and imagined going to a local supplier would be cheaper than getting a small quantity delivered mail order.

Yes, I called SJ Andrew last week (I get my gas from them), they have yet to get back to me as they don't carry it as standard. Halo are doing fabrication for me (really good, by the way) and when I asked they could get it, but only a great big load at once so they don't carry it.
Ah, used in ducting, is it? I don't know if there are any manufacturers of that kind of thing nearby but it's a lead I can follow up.

I am not sure that it is used in ducting. I am at a disadvantage here as I have not seen any genuine zintec sheet, but I have seen a lot of ducting.
The sheet used for ducting is a bright silver colour and can be left outdoors for ever without any corrosion. Generally, it is only resistance spot welded and the spots given a quick blow over with rattle can galvanising paint.
I suspect from reading around the subject that its zinc coating is considerably more than that of zintec sheet. AIUI, zintec can be welded without any issue or coating removal and needs further coating (e.g. paint, powder) for long-term corrosion resistance.
Someone who knows both materials should comment on the differences between them. The description of a 'bright, spangly surface', given here: http://gw-eng.co.uk/materials/ for galvanised sheet is what duct steel looks like to me.

Yes, zinc coated steel is used by HVAC manufacturers for ducting. A local company is run by a former pupil and they generously cut me some for making some wee tool boxes/trays with my third year practical metalworking class. We'll be riveting them rather than spot welding as we would steel.
He explained that it isn't Zintec but 0.8mm zinc coated steel, also that getting hold of it is very hard - and (as with most commodities) has doubled in price. He's being well looked after by his supplier as he has never bought elsewhere, whereas they're turning down others ringing round for prices and availability.
Some of his competitors have had to resort to stainless as they can't get hold of it but that has a massive impact on tooling longevity!
Hmm. It seems more complex than I thought! I was under the impression that 'Zintec' was a tradename like CORTEN, and the generic material was zinc coated steel, electroplated presumably rather than dip-galvanised. I've seen it mentioned on a number of threads for car parts and it seems to be the material de rigeur for that work.

Possibly try lasermaster. They are in Redruth. They cut it and claim to keep it in stock. Maybe they would sell you a full or half sheet.
