I was thinking about using some zinc rich primer to cover bare metal on a project I have going. This will then either be painted or welded onto. The only thing sold locally is David's Zinc 182 - has anyone used this for a weld through primer?
I used it on a mini once but not as a weld through primer. It goes on quite thick so I don't think it would be suitable. It's ok for covering bare metal though. Proper weld-through primers are a bit of a minefield, even the top brand ones don't seem that highly recommended.
If its the back of a plate where you wont get any paint or spray wax, whack some on.
Otherwise dont waste your time and money. Any weldthrouh primer will only hinder you.
The more zinc in it, the worse it is to weld through.
Grand. In that case I think I'll use it on the chassis and any bare metal, then use the flap disc on the bits I'll be welding to take it back just prior to welding.
Don't you mean the external lubrication system as invented by the British bike industry!
When I took the plastic sill finishers off my Range Rover the metal sills almost disintegrated and the rot was close to the seat mounts which also carry the seat belts - frightening
Well, the rear floor and sides are gone, as is the rear door shut inner and some of the rear inner wings. Haven't got as far as the front wings yet but there is a hole at the bottom of the near side A pillar.
Sills need about 1 square inch of rot cutting out each side (bonus) and strangely both rear cross members are sound (body and chassis).
Traced the oil leak back to the rocker cover but hey, it's stopping everything else rotting right now!
