Your thoughts on the quality of this?

Thank you all very much for your comments. I bought this earlier in the year and was never "really" satisfied with the welding and general quality for the price. I didn't know if it justified the high price tag, which is why I wondered what others thought of the quality (IE. to ascertain if it could be made to this standard for less basically).

It's already ran on the car at 28psi and was fine so no issues there - it's leak proof I think. It has been off the car about a month and yep, for sure it will get a good clean inside before being run again It's been sprayed now so all those welds are hidden anyway!

We make very similar intakes, slightly better in design and contrustion and charge around £700 each for them. What car is it for?

Bloody hell. £1000 for an inlet manifold.

I would expect there to be an awful lot of development work behind it for that. I would like to see flow bench results and/or cfd results for each runner and back to back dyno testing with figures and AFR adjustments available.

The welding looks ok to me but perhaps better cleaning required on some parts before welding and more heat/smaller filler in others.

I have made similar manifolds in the past for my own projects. There is no need for such huge amounts of 3d cnc. I've used water cut parts and the odd bit of CNC to create sockets etc. But not needed to needed it to the extent they have. That will be a large part of your bill.

The thigs that would annoy me most is the slopy way they haven't de burred the drilled parts on the TB flange. That material will break off and damage valve seats, and pistons/bores. I also don't like the way they have had to slot one of the flange bolt holes. Measure twice, cut once!

After all that i'm not too keen on the design. Bolt your TB on and look at the turn the air has to make to get into cylinder one. Thats going to cause shed loads of turbulance. Cylinder one will probably run richer than all the other cylinders which in turn will show up on your single point O2 sensor as the other three cylinders being slightly richer than they actually are.

But must admit its a strange way to make it - all that CNC work on the flange/lower runners? Why not waterjet a flange and weld straight to it? Could argue you can avoid distortion on the gasket face the way they did it I suppose?

I'd be inclined to say £700-800's worth of product if the manufacturing was a bit leaner.

You can't waterjet cut because of the injector bungs.

Yes you can Rick.

You just turn up the injector bungs and weld into the runners afterwards.

Done it quite a few times.

Needs a good clean out but it'll probably do the job. Can't comment on the welds as I know feck-all about ali welding. DId someone calculate the volume of the plenum for you or did they size it? Looks a bit on the small side when applying the stand-back-slightly-incline-the-head-and-squint calculator.

You can buy 'em too... http://www.emeraldm3d.com/weld-on-fuel-injector-bosses.html Probably not the cheapest source, often a lot easier/neater to weld in than bosses made from a bit of 1" bar but of course it all depends where you're mounting the injectors etc etc
