Personally I think the new hardened saws are superior to any old sharpened saw. The so called "japanese" saws that cut on the reverse are brilliant for accurate stuff. I must have about 10 different handsaws and the lot didnt cost much at all.

not when saws only cost 6 quid
That's dear I paid £3.95 for the last hardpoint saw I bought. I bought a normal saw for under £10, Tyzack make and it's decent.

It cuts just as good as the Stanley jetcut it replaced which had lost half its teeth through abuse so I'm happy and about £6 in pocket

I use the Spear & Jackson Predator saws, the red handled one (8 TPI I think), they get used first for accurate cutting, then once they start to get knackered they either get used for pallets/gash timber or aircrete blocks.
