Yet another phishing scam......

Been plagued with phone calls recently which hang up when answered.

The calls purport to be from an Edinburgh number 0131 204 8707 but clearly aren't because this morning there was a person on the other end who had what I took to be a Carribean accent. He was claiming to be from the Telephone Preference Management concerning call blocking and when asked for his geographic whereabouts........click.

I am registered with the genuine TPS and suspect this crowd would be asking for bank details to get you to register for an imaginary/non-existing blocking service. We know the rest.

Yeah they use an auto dialer system which only alerts them if it gets a connection by the victim to be answering so it takes a while for them to move to that call, if they get more connections than they have scammers to talk to you they press disconnect but it automatically stores the number for future attempts.

Wife is terrible for supplying her mobile number when she buys off the net, the result is she gets at least a couple of scam calls a day, I would have to be tortured for a year to part with my mobile number to any site and I get no calls

Get yourself one of these, BT 4600 premium nuisance call blocker. We have had ours a wee while now. Not one nuisance call has got through.

As we have a post about scams, the old "I from BT & problem with Internet" (insert foreign accent) scam is going round again. Had one the other day on the phone for 25 minutes, (I was bored at the time) I told him I didn't have the Internet he then told me I was lying & was going to get the police on to me for telling lies, my answer to this was get him round, I'll make him a cup of tea, this went on with him threatening me for about a quarter of an hour then got his supervisor on the phone as well. Next thing was he asked me "who you bank with" to which I said I keep my money under the bed, to which he got abusive again & "why you no tell me" yeh right as if I would. Next question was do you do on line banking, answer with no internet & no bank, how do I do Internet banking? Then back to threatening me. At this point I got fed up & put the phone down.

I then rang BT security & let them know, the girl there said " they've started that one again have they" very surprised that they kept up the scam call that long.

Sounds similar to the BT 8600 we have, very few spam calls these days

Thanks for that MH, My view was while I was winding him up & having a laugh, he was not able to scam anyone else.

We get them to the mobile all the time, Always come up with a regional number like Doncaster and it shows us on the screen the name of the region, We worked out that they are IP or VOIP calls so they can be anywhere in the world, They always say they are calling about my life insurance or mortgage policy so we ask for the policy number...Then they ask us what the number is as we need to confirm it? lol, I normally start telling them i have waxed my legs and my wife ran away with circus...

I had a well crafted email the other day

From: [my first name]@mycompany.com
To: accounts@mycompany.com
Please can you pay this bill (attached) using Faster Payments.

Obviously combining companies house info with my website - I don't use my first name except for legal stuff. That one went to action fraud as it would have to be a UK bank acc (no I didnt open the attached PDF to find out) so they could shut it down.

I’ve had English sounding ones about life insurance, tell them I don’t need it , I’m invincible

Had one trying to get me for a few days, had a lot of info on me (info that’s easy to find I might add) told me they were from hsbc and I need to go see them about a fraudulent transaction, they would meet me at the branch then take me to the fraud offices!!!!

Once I’d stopped laughing I phoned the police
