A friend of mine had one for years and loved it, he had a few bikes and kept it the longest of them all by years. He raved about the engine and all day comfort.

I have had mine for twenty years now. '03 Fazer Thou, gen 1.
During that period I have had dozens of other machines, R1's, FireBlades, everything from Supermotos to SuperDukes but I could never bring myself to let the Fazer go. If I want to nip down the shops, it's the Fazer. Nip down to the South of France, Fazer. I have taken it on plenty of track days too, just for fun.
Does it all for me. I'll never sell it, though I will carry on messing about with more specialist machines, the Fazer is my go-to.

Yeah, I used to have one. I prefer the later injection models over the early ones. Some had a flat spot which was irritating. Mine was an 08. Front brakes are excellent, it benefits from a +2 rear sprocket and either remove the EXUP or service it once a year.

I have tweaked mine a fair bit to get it "just so".
Firstly the stock carburation does need fettling. Back in the day, motorcycles had a deliberately engineered flat spot exactly where the "legislation of the day" would measure noise and emissions etc. It was a cheap trick and all you had to do is ditch the can and open up the airbox etc. With the Fazer Thou, it required some further surgery (Ivanising) which involved drilling out the carbs (!) rejetting among other tweaks.
I had the Ivanising done for me (it's fiddly!), fitted an ignition advance, knocked a couple of teeth off the front sprocket, upgraded the suspension (Nitron race shock, Hyperpro springs front), fitted some FatBars to alter the riding position, dropped the forks through the yokes and numerous other mods over the decades of ownership.
It started off like this:
...and was a CATD write off (!). I specifically wanted yellow because at the time it was the only one that came with the black engine. Then had a few bits painted to match, ditched the hilariously large end pipe etc.
Fact: black bikes are always faster.

I think red is that is why fire engines are painted red.

Lovely balance point, smooth, controllable precise throttle with plenty of oomph for lift-offs, and a nice precise snicketty gear change for clutchless changes mid-mono.
I actually never liked the styling, but a cracking road bike.
