It's all progress you know so don't complain! Google Earth stopped working on my old PC as supposedly the graphics card I had to swap in was below spec. I wasn't too surprised as the PC it came from had been stood in the garden 3 years. Oh well, I'll just use Google Earth on my laptop. Google Earth stopped working on my laptop as the graphics card wasn't up to scratch but it always used to from day one. Google Earth now runs on my newer dual core PC albeit a bit glitchy, maybe 4Gb of ram and 128Mb graphics is bare minimum now.

well this is all very interesting to I.T literate people im sure but how do I A) get rid of the bt has changed the way you log in page when I go on the internet and B) access my mail without going in circles putting in e.mail address and password everytime I go on line??

Simple, use a proper email client. See the Thunderbird suggestions above. Your email is fetched automatically, without you having to do anything.

Apart from having to re-try when passwords get rejected, being unable to use BT/Yahoo addresses without that "Validate Email Address" cropping up and preventing you from sending an email.

Also it can be a pain setting up server settings.

Otherwise I quite like T-Bird, even though it's horribly bloated.

Well I fetch from 4 addresses across two different ISPs. I don't get password rejection issues, so can't comment on that. If you configure the client from scratch, that should sort it out, I agree that it isn't the most friendly for modifications.

If you do a fresh install, maybe to a stick (Thunderbird portable) you should find that the auto configuration does the trick for you.

Bloated? Oh yes. I despise all BillyGoat compatible software for that and many other good reasons. Especially when having been used to RISC OS which can do everything in Mb rather than Gb! Sadly the "marriage" between Billy Goat and the Bliar killed further advancements there, although I do still use it for all my business work in preference to Windows.

I have 9 email addresses, 3 isps and it's always the same 2 addresses, one Yahoo and one live.co.uk that give trouble on the initial sweep when TB is loaded.

If I force a "Read All Messages" it's OK.

Subsequent automatic sweeps are usually OK.

Since Yahoo 'improved' their email system I find I have problems following streams of emails and my impression of the service is that it has slowed down and often 'hangs' - I'm just waiting for an email to go - the little 'sending' message has been running for a couple of minutes on a two-line email with no progress.

I am no IT Master, but I usually get by OK. The changes to Yahoo have got me looking for a new email route, that's for sure.
Perhaps one of the savvy members of the forum could do a 'how to' on setting up one of these clients for those of us that don't have a clue?

On the Google Earth front - I've had the problems with choice of 'direct X' or sumfinelse modes. All very well, but I think this is just another case of the clever lads that develop these systems adding a bit, adding a bit, adding a bit, etc. with no thought as to whether the core of the application which 80% of folks use, will still function with all the crap loaded on to it.

I'm just trying Postbox Express, it's very similar to TB (almost a clone) but it was easier to set up and takes less memory.
