Xmas lights ??

well its near that time again.
Xmas lights flashes to fast so I was thinking of cutting that little black box between the plug and the tree.it has a little circuit board inside.
the plug in the main gives out 12 volts to the circuit/bulbs I think?
do you think if I did cut it off or is there something I should know.

I'll have to check it when I get it out. never notice last year.

Most of them have a button on the little black box to toggle through the modes, i.e flashing, fade in/out, static, etc
