L 200 with a few luxuries are nice bits of kit. Been in a l 200 with leather and all the bells and whistles and I was pleasantly surprised. Only thing is who has owned in the past, a lot got abused and driven hard.

Didnt like the l200 at all.i thought the front cabin was very compact,you are very close to the passenger.could be a touch of clostraphobia talkin there tough. the 05 on ones i havent been in yet.cars and jeeps over here are never as good spec as uk .leather in a landcruiser,pajero,l200 or most commercial stuff is unbelievably rare.
diesel mpg would need to be at least double the equivalent petrol model as lpg is cheap near me.i dont mind getting 15 mpg when its a rumbling v8 getting me there.25mpg of diesel isnt as attractive.

Nissan x trails are very good, I was shocked how good. Well behaved and comfortable on the road and off road it will go anywhere the road tyres allow. Being Ireland surely it has to be a toyota or Nissan

The "classic" (before March 2006) and the "newshape" (mid 2006 on) are completely different beasts. Inside of the newshape really is a pleasant place to be - matter of fact, I bought mine of a 6ft6 Derryman who said he bought it because it was the only car he could fit in.
Barbarian spec newshape can go up to 200BHP (diesel) and all of the newshapes will do 30MPG. Mine gets 36MPG on the motorway (and that's an auto with fat tyres).

If you come across one do have a poke around inside and you may be pleasantly surprised.

Or there's the Shogun, especially if you want a petrol engine.

Mercs are rust buckets, Only merc or merc indies can read the codes or reset anything on the ecu. The 2.7 diesel suffers from the black death, google it full the full horror. Complicated and once the electrics start playing up, just leave it some where and walk home.

The 320cdi is the better engine but as always with mercs its everything else that fails on them. At the sort of age you are looking at no one gets merc spec parts to repair or service them which leads to more failures.

I have had several mercs and so has a friend of mine we call ours my rusty and his rusty hahaha

I have no experience with the petrol ones.

I have had loads of toyota 4x4's and they are largly bombproof and very simple to work on. They don't handle like an x5 or other road biased offerings from anyother manufacturer but I can live with that for the reliability.
The only thing that you would be missing with a normal estate car is the ride height and visibilty.

Luckily enough our poor country cant afford to salt the roads like ye.we just stay away from uk imports that spent too long in the uk before expulsion!

ill have to check out a >2006 mitsubishi and see what theyre going for

Just beware that there are some of the classics on 2006 and even 2007 plates, even though the newshape came in 2006.

It's easy to spot the difference, though;
The classic has a bonnet scoop like this;

And the newshape has a flat bonnet like this;

Oh, and some jealous classic owners refer to the newshape as "The Pram" cos it's got a rump like a Silver Cross pram, unlike the boxy classic (which takes after a Massey Ferguson )
