well id thought Id give this thread an update, machine is about a day off fireing, I ran some of the electronics, when I had the machine mocked up prior to painting, have only had odd days here and there and spent quite alot of time sourcing components, generally reasonably happy with the finish of the table......as stuart said, I think its going to be a good idea to get some bellows made for the rails/ball screws.......

At the mo no, but I think its going to be moving into its own shed.......I have an ideal building lined up....

my day job is cut metal with cnc-plasma and cnc-oxyburner

so i have couple questions about your diy-machine

how you going to change those slats ?
im not sure but it seems you weld those....

and you going to get terrible smoke because water is not going to be close to ironsheet


you have 3 motors xyz okay
how about gantry wobble or bend if chancing direction ?
because motor is moving gantry only one side
if cutting thin material gantry must move fast
oxyburner is not problem with that because its burning much slover

Iv used it for about a dozen or so cuts, I'm happy with the machine all except the floating head design which has a tendency to stick, this part was a real after thought and half arsed on my part.....

Getting clean cuts is somewhat experimental, feed rates make loads of difference even sheet with mill scale is different to something tarnished with light storage rust etc......

I'm going to rebuild the head before Christmas and really get to grips with the machine....pleased on the basic principle and software so far.....
