There's not really many other ways they can label modern stuff though, with wrought iron no longer being produced. "Bent, scrolled and curved mild steel" just doesn't have the same ring to it. 
It seems to have become synonymous of the styling rather than the metal used, these days. I'm betting most people don't even know that wrought iron refers to a metal rather than the style.
